Putin orders nuclear deterrent forces status raised to ‘special combat readiness’

US nuclear doctrine is to respond to nuclear strikes *on itself or its allies* with nuclear strikes. What alliance did we have with Ukraine again?
There's not really a way to drop a nuke on Ukraine without affecting America or its allies. Radiation spreads pretty far.

Not from a small tactical strike.

To be clear, how many tens of millions of Americans would you be cool with killing in a nuclear war with Russia?

Zero......which is why, because of the threat of Putin, why I have been stating he needs to be taken out, forthwith, without hesitation. Sitting back, doing nothing, but blaming everybody else.....how many Americans are you willing to see die, because you hesitated?

And how exactly do we just "take out" Putin?

I'm sure the government has people who plan out such scenario's.

They really don’t. The US has bans on political assassinations of national leaders and has since the 60’s.

Nobody's going to use nukes on Ukraine. Russia's nukes are meant for NATO (ie. to deter it).

US nuclear doctrine is to respond to nuclear strikes with nuclear strikes. If Russia drops a nuke in Ukraine, there's not going to be a Russia anymore.
Unfortunately, there won't be a US of A either if that happens.

Is it true that Polish typewriters come with free replacements of the "z" and "j" keys every three years?

(asks he, tongue in cheekily, whose stepfather didn't even know how his name was actually spelled because the Immigration people couldn't wrap their minds around the Polish surname of his step-grandfather).
Ha! It wouldn't surprise me. Someone once said that Mandarin Chinese was only marginally more difficult to master than Polish!

What the US says in public is frequently very different from the reality. America, we're told, doesn't torture-but happily sends suspects to foreign countries to experience the joys of 'extraordinary rendition' in some unpleasant third-world shithole.

Exactly right. Things going bad for Russian in Ukraine could be very bad news for the world. The more desperate his position becomes the more brutal and irrational he will be
Is this another let's give him what he wants response? Things going badly in ukraine could be very bad news for putin and the russian people who will suffer because of his decisions.

I'm not exactly sure what this means in real terms but it sure doesn't sound good. Putin is evil and becoming desperate and it's not comforting to know he has the ability to launch nukes at any time. Hopefully someone in his inner circle will take this psychopath out if he starts reaching for the button. There has to be discord developing in the higher ranks.

"Putin ordered the Russian defense minister and the chief of the military's General Staff to put the nuclear deterrent forces in a "special regime of combat duty." The move signals tensions could boil over into a nuclear war. "

What do you suggest? Just give putin ukraine?

That's too funny!

What was the trend in my childhood of telling "Pollock" jokes? What was that all about?

The Russian Ground Forces (AKA "Russian Army") has a strength of around 280,000 active personnel out of 850,000 active personnel, or ready to deploy.

The combined Ukrainian (200,000), French (205,000), German (184,000), and UK (194,000) forces available total 783,000. However, the combined ARMIES of Ukraine (169,000), France (118,600), Germany (64,036), and the UK (82,040) total 433,676 - which is 1.5488 times MORE than the Russian Ground Forces in total (and not all of the Russian Ground Forces have been committed to Ukraine.

And, no, Russian was never a "World Superpower".

Almost all of the evidence that Russia was actively planning on threatening any other country came from the fertile mind of Col. Reinhard Gehlen who sold his "information" to the US government in return for protection and exemption from being prosecuted for war crimes.

HOWEVER, it was essential to the US government that there be SOME enemy to keep the pot boiling on the condition of "Perpetual War" and so the US government started the ball rolling by accusing the Russians of "re-arming" when Russia was in the process of demobilizing the Red Army as fast as possible after WWII. Once the US government deemed that "Russia was evil" and started making threatening gestures in its direction, (the rather paranoid dictator Josef) Stalin responded by actually slowing down the demobilization and starting Russia on the path to develop nuclear weapons (using the German scientists that the Russians had acquired as war booty) and long range missiles (again using the German scientists that the Russians had acquired as war booty [while the US furiously worked at developing long range missiles {using the German scientists that the Americans had acquired as war booty}]) in order to have a credibly counter-threat to the American nuclear/missile threat.

In short, EVERYONE screwed up in the 1950s and we are still paying the price for those screw ups today.
Isn't that the way it always is? We pay the price for past screw ups?

That was because of white supremacy and white privilege.

The US hasn’t conducted or even attempted the political assassination of a national leader since the 60’s. It’s just not something the US has in its wheelhouse.

Not only do we pay the price for past screw ups, but we continually elect (and re-elect) known screwers-up so that our kids and their kids and their kids can pay for the current screw-ups.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if people would vote for the most honest, most reliable, most conscientious, most ethical, most qualified, and most suitable candidate (who was actually going to attempt to work to implement the clearly set out program [which included METHODS as well as "goals" {do NOT read "goals" as "platitudes"}] that they said that they supported) REGARDLESS of whether that candidate had a "BIG _[fill in the blank]_" after their name?

I have no idea how you got that out of what I posted
