Putin ends all talks of a ceasefire with irrational demands

Putin is now demanding that the UN form a new govt. in Ukraine before he will even talk about a ceasefire. The UN has of course rejected that and so have US negotiators. He sees that Ukraine will not surrender and he will not stop the killing even for 30 days until they do. Putin's lie that Zelensky is illegitimate will not change the fact the his approval is over 60% and rising in Ukraine. The idea that Ukraine can hold elections when millions are living in exile due to his invasion is ludicrous.

Vladimir Putin has suggested Ukraine could be placed under a temporary UN-led government to organise fresh elections as both Moscow and Kyiv accused each other of breaching an energy ceasefire agreed this week.
The idea was quickly rejected by a US spokesperson, and it was not clear how far it was meant to be taken seriously, given that the Kremlin clarified that Putin had not raised this idea in recent phone calls with Donald Trump.
But the remarks indicate that any negotiated end to the war in Ukraine is some way off as Russia continues to add conditions to achieving a settlement while Kyiv has said it would sign up to a 30-day ceasefire if Moscow agreed.
Putin said the idea would be to allow Ukraine to “hold democratic elections, to bring to power a viable government that enjoys the trust of the people, and then begin negotiations with them on a peace treaty” – though he later said that was just “one of the options”.

Yes and ending the war would collapse Putin's regime. He has converted Russia into a 100% war economy which cannot survive under peace. That is why we know that Ukraine is just a stepping stone and key to his revival of the Soviet Union.
 
Putin has the upper hand. Trump is under tremendous domestic pressure right now, and one of his campaign promises was to end the war in Ukraine.

He certainly does now. He knows Donnie Boy's painted himself in a corner because he's caused the rift between the US and Europe's positions that create a nice opening for him to maneuver. So I guess this war is not going to be over in 24hrs? Man, and it was supposed to have been so easy.


It is interesting that Putin's condition for peace is for the UN to do the work he's failed to do with this 3 year "special military operation". I'm curious to see what level of kowtowing Donnie Boy does now.

I don't and mainly because I don't think Donnie Boy would do anything to anger Putin or other authoritarians he admires.

Narcissism can be a capricious thing. Putin could probably push Trump farther than most, but you can only push a narcissist so far before he makes it his life's mission to make you pay.
 
Terms are dictated by the winner and Russia is the winner in this conflict. Dictator Zelensky has been given numerous opportunities for a ceasefire over the years and has refused every single one. So, Russia isnt playing around anymore. They’re making it clear that the only chance of a peace deal now is if Dictator Zelensky is removed. They’re only stating the obvious. Those are the terms. Take it or leave it.

Definitely possible, but I severely doubt it. If that were the case Donnie Boy would have upped the rhetoric the moment Putin started backpedaling and left him alone at the peace talks altar.

Another ground attack against Kyiv?
 
Technically it hasn't won at the moment, and Ukraine can continue defending itself. The problem is the long term support beyond the year or so o weapons and ammo it has left from what's already been provided. This has been a slog for Russia as well, so I'm sure it's not lost on them this will also exact a price. The variable here is the US becoming impotent due to its current lack of leadership.
 
Then I guess it's time to resume sending aid and double up sanctions on Russia until they are no longer "winning" and revisit this peace proposal once the Russian casualties start approaching one million. Perhaps Putin will be more amenable to peace talks then?

Trump can end the war this year if he steps up aid to Ukraine. Russia is buckling on the battlefield. Ukraine will not surrender and the war will go on for his entire term if he keeps sucking up to Putin and tries to get Ukraine to surrender.
 
Russia is far from the "winner" and Russia is losing ground daily now. Zelensky has agreed to a unconditional ceasefire and Putin is refusing. As far as Putin's terms are concerned he can shove it. Ukraine will make dirty bombs and send them to Moscow before they surrender to Putin. You better hope it doesn't come to that.
 
Didn't we elect a master negotiator who would end this war in 24 hours??? Right after he lowered the price of everything of course. Trouble is that Trump is now so desperate to make it look like he actually achieves something in Ukraine that he will be piling even more pressure on Ukraine to surrender to Putin, just so Trump can tell his magas what a brilliant negotiator he is. Trump isn't getting anything our of Putin. Putin knows how weak Trump is. Dangerous situation for Ukraine right now fighting both Putin and a flailing Trump.

Trump doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to admit he made an error in judgement.
 
And here we are again - the left loves the mini Mussolini so much, and don't want Trump to look good so bad - they just want the war to go on forever and eventually lead to a broader global conflict.
I maintain it - the left would rather have full WW III than Trump look good.

Putin making unreasonable demands is prolonging the war. I don't see any lefties cheering this.

And, uh, the right loves the international war criminal, so here we are.
