Politicians care most about their careers. Second is political strategy, especially long term political strategy. If their long term political strategy was to make her the leader of the party, there is no way they would put her in these vulnerable positions. She embarrassed herself at her big speech in Europe (just concluded at 6 am EST) . She looked as nervous as a sixth grader standing up giving a speech in class.

I don't think liberals understand the diversity of thought in conservative ranks. They think they are all evil and that's the end of it. Sadly, many conservatives are guilty of looking at Democrats in the same way. Both parties are splitting because of the diversity.
Also sadly, there are far too many people, including those who are apolitical, who are, to be very charitable, intellectually lazy and so make assumptions about entire large groups of people based on their observations and experiences with a handful.
