It's common knowledge that progressives just luv the Post Office, but they also claim to value environmentalism. Let's look at some facts regarding the environmental impact of the Post Office:

The amount of junk mail delivered each year is staggering. It's been estimated at 100 billion pieces of mail in the U.S. each year. Or to put it another way, every household gets about 848 pieces of junk mail a year.

The only way to produce that much junk mail is to rely on lots of trees. Experts estimate 100 million trees are used every year just to produce junk mail. Many of them come from the largest forests in the world, located in Indonesia and Canada. But those forests are also home to about 17 percent of the world's birds and 12 percent of the mammals on earth. The loss of 100 million trees a year is a huge blow, experts say. The forests on the earth absorb 2 billion tons of carbon a year. But with the deforestation needed for junk mail, there are fewer trees to help reduce greenhouse gases.

Experts say the average person gets 18 pieces of junk mail for every piece of so-called "regular" mail delivered.

Fill up landfills. About 42 percent of all junk mail goes to landfills unopened. That fills up space and creates demand for new landfills.

Junk mail production. The factories that create and ship out junk mail are responsible for carbon emissions equivalent to about 9 million vehicles.

Waste-Away Group : Junk Mail Facts and Statistics

To recap: 100 million trees are chopped down every year in order to create 100 billion pieces of junk mail advertisments in order to try to convince people to buy more crap that they don't need before it all ends up in our landfills. This is what progressives want subsidized.

The Post Office is not only unnessary, it's extremely wasteful and harmful to the environment. So why do progressives luv the Post Office? Easy. They luv the Post Office because expands the size and scope of the state, and in the end, that is all progressives really care about.

The left are such hypocrites. This won't phase them one little bit.

I had no idea the Post Office cuts down 100 million trees every year.

Oh that's right, it doesn't.

That's all done by corporations that donate to Republican election campaigns in order to have pollution regulations removed.

It's also common knowledge that conservatives have been trying to privatize America's post office for years. I don't doubt we could reduce our impact on the environment, but that doesn't require privatization. Privatization is a philosophical goal, it's what libertarians are fighting for.

The damage has been done. No changes should have been 'studied' (appointing a stooge) a few months before this election...

You are blaming advertising on the delivery man. Unless that junk mail is bought and paid for by the USPS you are attacking the wrong person. You need to attack the companies that paid for those adverts instead of the USPS that delivers it.

Is my ISP responsible for the Nigerian prince and pop-up ads that I have blocked?

No, because the enormous quantity of junk mail we have now wouldn't exist without the Post Office. The price to send a piece of junk mail is artificially low (as low as 14 cents each) and is being subsidized by the taxpayer.

You are so desperate to defend Trump's opposition to mail voting and blame the USPS that you will blame them for anything, even if you have to take a faceplant to do it.

Why don't you blame the companies who send the junk mail and not the messenger? I recycle all of my junk mail, so it isn't wasted.

Is it the fault of the USPS that they are efficient?

Would you still blame the companies if it were free to send junk mail? The companies are simply taking advantage of government stupidity.

Lol, they lost 8.8 billion dollars last year. Who do you think pays for that?

I recycle all of my junk mail, so it isn't wasted.

If cutting down trees and turning them into letters so you can toss them into the recycle bin isn't wasteful, then what is.

It’s not free, and yes I would.

The USAF lost over 150 billion.

The USPS employs zero lumberjacks.

Are we going to make a list of government failures? Because that's going to be a really long list.
No, but how come you don’t demand the USAF break even?

True, but it incentives lumberjacks to cut down trees.

Your one of those people who blames the spoon for fat people, aren’t you?

Is your argument seriously that companies printing those materials, that junk mail to send would just stop doing that if the post office went away and post was all sent through private carriers?

The USPS has a government-enforced monopoly on putting junk mail in your mailbox and it still lost over 8 billion dollars last year.

Does delivering junk mail sound like a profitable business opportunity to you?

The mail is a constitutional service. If you dont approve of junk mail, complain to and boycott those sending it, private companies.

ok, if this is an issue, then mandate that junk mail be printed using biodegradable materials

The postal service isn’t a business, it’s a service. It doesn’t lose money, it costs money.

Btw, how much of that junk mail was printed on recycled paper?

The problem is junk mail.

That has nothing to do with the post office
