US: Making Money On Terrorism
by William D. Hartung, The Nation
February 5, 2004
We all know that Halliburton is raking in billions from the Bush Administration's occupation and rebuilding of Iraq. But in the long run, the biggest beneficiaries of the Administration's "war on terror" may be the "destroyers," not the rebuilders. The nation's "Big Three" weapons makers--Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Northrop Grumman--are cashing in on the Bush policies of regime change abroad and surveillance at home.

So? I'm sure favoritism has played a part in almost every single presidency.

And that idea that it's been around for a long time justifies it?

Robin, are you suggesting these companies should do what they do for free?

The post is misleading in that the only companies it lists are ones that have profited form the Bush presidency. No, I'm saying why point it out now rather than 200 years ago? Just because you don't like Bushy?

Also, My Company's gotten Gov't contracts before. In our line of work, even though the numbers sound impressive, first, you're only allowed a 10 or 15% profit margin, and you're lucky to break even when all is said & done, because if they see the finished project & don't like it, they make you re-do it, you're under contract, so you have to, and you don't get any more money than you were originally granted.

No but they shouldn't lobby for wars & encourage spin on intelligence etc etc.. generally pulling strings to make wars happen.

Our government reps. should not be able to profit in anyway from a war. If you run for congress or the presidency you should have to give up any interests you might have with any arms manufacturer. The companies should be more responsible in their lobbying but they should be free to make a profit, but not the politicians.
With that said,
I wish people would realize that this is not a "Bush administration occupation" there are 535 people in congress who help run this war and our country, So maybe they should get some of the blame as well.
