I saw a great piece on the news last night about an ex El Al Airline security chief who is advising our leaders in Washington on U.S. airline safety.

Bottom line, he said the U.S. is $crewed.
- He said that the MAIN stumbling block for making U.S. airlines truly safe, instead of the joke they are now, are our leaders in Washington. He said the egos and the partisanship are/is so huge in Washington and the influence of lobbyists for the airlines (who do not want the appropriate changes made because they would cost a lot of money) is so great that there will not be any adequate/needed changes until we have another huge catastrophe like 9/11 again!

He was also asked about the techniques El Al uses. he said this is an area where the U.S. and El Al GREATLY differs! He said that politics and - most importantly - Political Correctness is the biggest problem wrong with Americans on security here in the states. He says El Al has eliminated these two issues from security concerns.

For example: People are coming through security in Israel an elderly black woman, an American couple (he says Americans are pretty obvious to detect  ), and a man who looks Middle Eastern - who you gonna pull aside and question?
- El Al pulls aside the man of Middle Eastern dissent.
-- America is so wrapped up with PC that they refuse to acknowledge the simple fact: Not all Muslims are suicide bombers and terrorists, but almost ALL the suicide bombers and terrorists these days are Muslim. Americans go nuts over the mere thought of racial profiling, bending so far backwards that they would rather allow a terrorist on board a plane and blow it up than to possibly embarras or inconvenience Muslims by pulling some aside and asking them some simple question! He said America needs to drop the PC cr@p before it gets a lot of people killed!

Once he pulls someone aside, they ask them some simple questions, like:

Who are you?
Doctors, lawyers, etc immediately (pretty much) get cleared at that point. "When was the last time a suicide bomber was a doctor or lawyer", he asked.

Where are you from?
certain locations draw more attention like: Pakistan, syria, Iran, etc....

Let me see your passport:
He says he will flip through the passport but doesn't really look at the passport - he looks at the individual. He said he knows most terrorists can go through/ome from terrorist/hostile locations without getting their passports stamped (like the 9/11 terrorists came through Iran onthe way to the u.S. without any passport stamps). He said often their own faces/expressions would clue them in as he rifled through the pages.

He said El al also enters every name into a computer and, using a special program, checks for any red flags as well as gets/confirms a little info on each person (as much as possible) before flyers ever get there.

He said the United States is where Israel was 30 years ago in regards to airport/airline security!

He ended up saying, again, that our officials in Washington, the cost of what it would take to get us where we need to be, and Political Correctness are our biggest enemies!

I agree with him. As far as PC goes, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that almost all the terrorists are Muslim, so there whould be np problem paying a little more attention to them than others. I am sorry if it causes a little embarrassnent, inconvenience, or insult but facts are facts, and one of the facts in today's world is that it is the Muslim Islamic Extremists carrying out the attacks! I would rather embarrass or upset a passenger or two than get a plane load of people killed becuase of political Correctness!

Here is another good article on the issue:
