If congress really wants to end the recession, they would check each product advertised on TV, and the media, stop companies that produce things that don't do what they advertise or imply, put the proof on the seller, not the buyer.

No. You make a decision when you buy. It is your responsibility to determine where your money is going. The responsibility does not lie on every other tax payer to provide funds to create another over-sized, poorly managed government department to inspect the thousands of new products that come on the market each month.

We already have a commission to inspect and report faulty/defective products to. That commission forced the recall of several tens of thousands of cribs in '09 or '10, to name one example. There are probably 50+ legitimate review sights were users can post what they think of products they've purchased, giving a new buyer ample warning of the cons before buying.
