The Byzantine Rite Catholic priest Fr. Basil Hutsko (pictured above) was physically assaulted in the sacristy of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Merrillville, IN following the Divine Liturgy (Mass) recently.

The assailant choked him before slamming his head on the ground and yelled, “This is for all the kids!” – likely referencing the recent reports of the sexual abuse of minors in Pennsylvania.

Re: Priest attacked in his own sacresty

I think there’s a song in the hit musical Chicago that covers this sort of thing.

They had it coming. Otherwise known as the Cellblock Tango.

That's what I thought. I'm surprised you had the guts to say it out loud.

I was listening to WABC in the morning this week and Bill Donohue was the guest. All he could harp on was the way the press was reporting the abuse, how it was old news that the priests involved were no longer part of the church and how some of the accused priest were probably innocent. I was not impressed to say the least. A bit more contrition or any contrition would have been more appropriate in my humble opinion.

Why? The Catholic Church is a criminal organization as far as I’m concerned and if they continue to insist on denying people justice then people with take matters into their own hands.

Your opinion doesn't sound so humble. What do you have to say about the guy who had his head bashed in for no reason?

Like many gays and blacks and all those molested kids he sure didn't deserve being attacked for no reason. Maybe if the catholic church took some responsibility for the mess he wouldn't have.

The last time I heard this kind of bigotry it was coming from the Grand Dragon of the KKK. Let that sink in.

There is a poster here who would call that "whataboutism".

So when I'm calling you on your hypocrisy you excuse yourself by pleading "whataboutism".

Look, either you approve of innocents being hurt or you don't. Which is it?

I can only laugh at that assertion. We’re talking about an organization that intimidates it’s rape victims, including children, into silence and does everything in its power to shield the perpetrators from criminal prosecution and has given no indication that it will stop doing so.

How am I being hypocritical? I didn't condone the beating. The fact that I also pointed out that many others have suffered through no fault of their own is not being hypocritical. My opinion that if the catholic church had admitted the wrong doing much earlier and taken responsibility for abusive priest instead of hiding their transgressions and moving them to other parishes might have prevented this senseless attack is also NOT hypocritical. Just an opinion. So I ask again how am I being hypocritical?

The guy's name was Dale Roush, he sounded exactly like you: He hated blacks, Jews, Catlicks, and invented all kinds of reasons to excuse his violent actions. Go ahead, laugh some more.

You're making excuses for criminal behavior while denouncing criminal behavior, that's hypocritical.

I’ll be laughing until someone grows the stones to do it right and dismantle this criminal organization from the top down starting with the expulsion of the Vatican ambassador until the Pope does the right thing. The fact remains that the Catholic Church brought this on itself.

How am I making excuses? Be specific. The guy who attacked the priest should be tried like anyone else committing a crime. It not like I'm helping a guy who shot an OBGYN who was attending church in the name of being "pro life".

Using your logic we should deport or every illegal alien we can find because of what happened to Mollie Tibbetts, among others, and expel the Mexican ambassador until the president of Mexico does the right thing. Mexico brought this on itself.

How does that sit with you?

Illegal entry is a victimless crime nor is the Mexican government directly involved in it so that’s a false equivalency. This is indeed in stark contrast to an organization which not only does everything in its power to conceal the crime of rape but spirits away the perpetrators to foreign lands when criminal charges are eventually brought so they can’t be prosecuted.

Victimless crime???? Tell that to Mollie Tibbets, you are a hypocrite of the first order. How dare you justify an attack on an innocent man and the murder of an innocent woman to appease your bigotry?

Mollie Tibbetts was not killed by illegal entry nor did the Mexican government attempt to intimidate her family into silence or whisk away her killer to India so he couldn’t be prosecuted. Don’t speak to me of bigotry or hypocrisy while defending the Catholic Church. Both have been the hallmarks of that organization for centuries. Too bad you cant burn me at the stake to shut me up anymore. Or do you hanker for those days?

All you have to say is that you don't condone the attack on the Priest. The rest is extraneous.

Btw, I just started re-reading the Foundation Trilogy.

If that guy hadn't been here it wouldn't have happened, period.
