Do you agree that mass shootings are what drive most anti gun legislation? Gang activity and crime drive anti gun legislation too, but not as much outside of the major cities.

Is there any way we can reduce mass shootings?

In general, few people care about gang shootings because very few of us are likely to encounter it. School shootings scares anyone with a kid in school and worries the rest of us because we all know people who do. My pet peeve is domestic homicide, which is unrelated to either of the above.

Absolutely it is

And the response so far, in countries where there's been any kind of political commitment to stop repeats of those shootings, has been to ban guns.

Gang violence had an impact on getting gun legislation passed in the late 80’s and 90’s. However the problem kept growing. Now it’s a daily thing in one of the cities within an hour from me that someone in shot in a suspected gang or drug related event. It lost its punch, Now mass shootings are what has the force behind them, as that fades the next cause will rise to replace narrative when needed.

The question isn’t really if we “can do“ anything it is “what we are willing to give up“ in the hopes of reducing mass shootings. Everyone has there enough point that goes to far

Not really. What "gang violence" resulted in what gun legislation ?

Fear of mass shootings is the marketing angle of choice currently. Similar to the crying Indian was for pollution in the 70's, instill fear and attempt to invoke guilt. When the paint fades, there will something else to rally around.

Marketing ?

No, governments in the UK, Australia and Canada have reacted to mass shootings with legislation banning guns (or rather types of guns).

The laws concerning gun possession while also having drugs grew in the 80’s and early 90’s as a direct result of the gang activity surrounding crack cocaine

Sure, marketing. If reacting is to remove a freedom, then yes, the governments mentioned above have reacted. I wonder if the majority of the citizens living in these countries feel that their daily lives are safer or that they wish they had the freedom to choose. If you're raised dependent upon the government I suppose it could go either way.

Three in four of Gen Zs report mass shootings as a significant source of stress

Seriously, you don't think mass shootings are a problem? Gen Z are going to be the people in power eventually.

Once they're in power, who will stop the anti gun legislation?

Are you saying there's a law prohibiting you from carry a gun (assuming you are allowed to do so in your state) ***IF*** you have drugs on you ?

Then we have a different understanding of what "marketing" means
Indeed we have a fundamental difference of what "the market" means

The electorate that elects a government is not its "market"

The government "reacted" because the legislation it passed was in response to an event, not in anticipation of it happening

An ability to choose means no law at all. Like an ability to chose as to whether to observe speed limits or pay taxes.

I'm sure Gen Z lists lots of sources of stress. Heck, I bet they also rank losing wifi or breaking their IPhone right up there as well. Such is the life of that generation. I've said before that I believe successive generations will be fool enough to give up guns. They are already used to privacy being a relic and are okay with it.

Mass shootings are horrible. As are any deaths where violence occurs. Many are gang related or a tragic family matter. The government however markets the school or workplace incidents (which are very few) to instill fear that you are subject to die at any given moment due to someone with a gun. Once fearful, then guilt follows for not getting rid of the tool. Classic recipe.

No...that is not the motivation of gun banners. Gun banners are driven by their 'cause', just like everyone else. Gun banners scan the news looking for dead bodies they can exploit to promote their cause. They CREATE mass hysteria over school shootings that in a real sense in even the worst of years have a .0000000017% likelihood of occurring. They glory in the always tragic but still very small handful of victims in 'mass shootings' but ignore the fact that the entire annual sum of victims of mass shootings are dwarfed by even a slow weekend in the minority communities across the country every single weekend. Mass shootings arent an impetus...they are an excuse.

Can you STOP a mass shooting? Sure...by attacking the mass shooter at the first sign of trouble. But can you stop 1 lone individual that decides to drive his or her car into a crowd? Can you stop ANYONE truly committed to an act of mass violence if you dont first know about them?

Indeed many mass shootings are gang related but many are not

It's also true that there are mass shootings in other countries, but no other country suffers their regularity than the USA.

"56 percent of Gen Zs who are in school say they experience stress at least sometimes when considering the possibility of a shooting at their school."

That is the bi-product of the gun banning mass hysteria promoted in the country.

There are some 350,000 education institutions in the country. Since 1982 there have been 18 school "mass shootings". Do the math. the likelihood of a school "mass shootings" occurring on any given day or in any given year is infinitesimally small...yet we treat it like its an every day occurrence. Students are more likely to die in a school fire or a bus accident...or really ANY means OTHER than a school "mass shooting".

The good part is that mass shooting at school are why it's only a matter of time until the new generations totally outlaws guns.

So because YOU think a school mass shooting is too rare to be significant, you think other people should think the same ?

Also if you look at all shootings in US schools, it's a bit bigger than 18:

The way I see it, the best way to solve a problem is to work the problem, not the symptom. Mass shootings are a symptom. The mental condition of someone who would commit a mass shooting is the problem. I wish we would put more focus on research and prevention at the source. Easier said than done of course, but unaddressed problems have a way of...not going away.

1934 NFA

1968 GCA

Clinton Gun ban-since they couldn't ban handguns, they went after modern sporting rifles

I think gun banners will be shunned and seen as haters of the constitution before that happens

It certainly is what prompts Democrats to propose totally idiotic gun control laws that would do nothing to stop mass shootings, but might get people to vote for them.
