After two weeks of unity surrounding the Biden administration's swift and sweeping response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, patience is quickly thinning on Capitol Hill, with Republicans -- and even some Democrats -- challenging the administration to go further to help Ukrainian allies under attack.

The tension comes as the administration has exhausted some of its most obvious tools to rein in Russian aggression. Debilitating sanctions, humanitarian aid, military support and diplomatic efforts have all been used in conjunction with Europe in the lead-up to and opening days of Russia's war, which slowed but has not stopped Moscow's assault on Ukrainian cities and civilians. Now there are mostly hard choices ahead as the US weighs whether to take even further steps amid risks of escalating tensions between Russia and NATO.

On Thursday, lawmakers in multiple committee meetings criticized the Biden administration's decision to reject a Polish offer to send fighter jets to Ukraine through the United States and a German air base. Several senators on the Foreign Relations Committee blasted the administration for not acting immediately to help facilitate the transfer, questioning how the administration had made that decision after initially appearing to back it earlier in the week.

Maybe the powers that be are waiting for consensus to build to send us to war, because 'taking further steps' will lead to war.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that was a stinkin, rotten move on our part.

So far President Biden has been making the correct decisions about every aspect of our Ukrainian support, including not sending Polish jets from Ramstein airbase. We have no justification whatsoever to defend Ukraine by directly engaging Russia in a shooting war. We have no mutual defense pact with Ukraine, and neither do any of our NATO allies.

Its all about finding a way to get them from Poland into Ukraine without either USA or Poland flying them in where they become an open target for attack and the cause of broadening the scope of the conflict and a pretext for Russia to expand its list of enemies.

Incorrect. The Biden administration was initially reacting appropriately. However, it has been increasingly tardy and ruled by same unreasonable tepid fears that has sometimes dominated prior US military actions (e.g. the Persian Gulf War being called off prematurely in 1990).

Biden, from the moment of his SOTU speech has missed his opportunity to elevate this cause to an FDR moment, a declaration of a full throated commitment to do anything and everything other than commit US troops to combat against Russian forces, to supply Ukraine with the conventional arms it desperately needs. The US and the west in general had, and continues to have, the means to be an arsenal of democracy, as it WWII.

We are failing, badly. Biden, it would seem, has again faltered to seize the moment - the voice of fear and hesitation in the Obama administration (wisely over ridden by Obama regarding Bin Laden) is imprinted in his temperament, much to the despair of the people of Ukraine.

Give them the damn planes.

About seven months too late.

Our lying thieves, apparently, see a way to steal more money if they appropriates some for Ukraine.

US Javelin's - kill Russian soldiers
US Stinger's - kill Russian soldiers
Polish MiGs - kill Russian soldiers

 I'm still at a loss to grasp the difference.

I too am at a loss. There is no qualitative difference between killing. Dead is dead.

In the meantime, the west moronically frets over the nuances of sending a plane by rolling it on the ground vs a ferrying flight vs dispatching it from Poland rather than Germany.

Did Putin issue a list of proscribed weapons to Biden?

Putin's makin' a list. Biden's checking it twice. Gonna make sure he's not naughty, but nice!

The Russians struck Yavoriv yesterday, only 20 miles from the Polish border.

9 dead and 134 injured. That was at the Conbat Training Center where US instructors trained Ukrainian soldiers.

I think Putzin is trying to provoke us. Seeing what i'd take to get us angry and get us involved....mostly so he can go on RT and say "See!!! See! The West is behind this war! Western troops in Ukraine proves they are involved!!!"

Yes, and Russia having seen our unwillingness to create a no fly zone, and trepidation over giving planes to Ukraine to provide air cover, have announced that NATO convoys are fair game. And, at the same time struck two western airfields and the Combat Training Center on the border.

As always, the west, in public, shoots itself in the foot showing weakness, and the predator exploits it. Those planes should have been delivered. Our timidity may have just closed a window.

Putin will always win as long as we allow him to set the "red lines".

That would be stupid. The Russian military on a good day is a 2nd tier force. If we seriously went at it with NATO the Russian military in Ukraine - which is about half the entire Russian army - wouldn’t last a month.

The only thing he has going for him is his nukes and I don’t think he’s that nuts.

A lotta people didn't think he'd be nuts to invade Ukraine. And yet......here we are at Day 18.

That wasn’t nuts. He took Crimea in 2014 without much of a fuss. Why not go for the rest? Nuts would be provoking a confrontation with NATO.
