The tactics Trump relies in a debate are now well known.
We watched what he did in the 2016 debates, and we also watched as Hillz writhed like a flounder gasping for air, struggling to decide whether to issue a firm rebuke or "take the high road and soldier on".

Trump interrupted her every single time she spoke, and not just with one word grunts either.
Trump treated the debates the way he treats everything. They're on TV thus they must be a reality show.
Reality TV is at least partially responsible for his victory, at least a decade or two of conditioning to the point where many forget to draw distinctions between reality TV and reality itself.
And Trump is an absolute master of the reality TV genre.

So does Joe Biden have to carry himself the way Hillz did, or have we finally entered a new era where the only fight possible is one on their terms?
Trump intends to fight dirty, every single thing he's ever written, all his books focus on the folly of defining a fight in clean or dirty terms.
Trump makes it clear in no uncertain terms that the only way to really win a fight is to fight dirty, and assume your opponent already is.
For Trump, the perception that Dems want to be cordial and accommodating is the signal of a mark, a chump, one unworthy even of simple respect.

So, why is it important for Biden to intentionally bring a feather duster to a gunfight?
What are some suggestions on tactics that would work well for Joe Biden?
Post your thoughts here, please.

Joe should bring a few recordings of Trump along (even if audio-only), like "15 cases going down to 0" and him not wanting his covid numbers to go up and him saying he takes no responsibility, Access Hollywood tape, Mexico will pay for the wall, promises for better healthcare plan, etc, etc. Then he should learn well how to jump to the right one, and play the tapes at opportune moments.

The Woodward Tapes.
Start off with a 15 second snippet of that and promise President Trump that he's going to be hearing them all night long...his own words, ON TAPE.

When Trump starts in with the interruptions, the stalking around the stage, I would like to see Biden's time paused and Trump rebuked by the moderators and allow Biden to continue uninterrupted, up to and including cutting Trump's mic off.

Every time Trump says something that Biden's addled brain is unable to rebut, all Biden has to do is drop and give him 20 with the group of little girls he has standing by...and then challenge Trump to do the same.

IF Trump starts that stalking shit I would like to see Joe trun around and slap his hands together, real loud, right in Trumps face; I'll bet the fat bastard would jump back in fear, maybe fall on his fat ass, and show the world what a coawardly chickenshit he really is.

Biden will not show! Q 2024

Biden will not show! Q 2024
Trump will look so bad in the first one he'll finagle a way out of the others. He knows this so he still might squeeze out of the first one, too. Bone spurs, maybe, or that drug test crap he already brought up.
It's a debate, not a press conference and Trump won't be able to hide any of his baggage. Even the economy- Biden was part of the team that brought America out of the last Republican election and Trump won't get away with claiming he engineered the recovery.
Trumps, and your, best hope in this election is that Russia can contrive a megaton dirt-bomb about Biden. Without that, Trump is ****ed.

Tactic 1: the moment Trump starts speaking over him, speak louder over Trump.

Tactic 2: demand a condition under which the mic of the person whose turn it is not is turned off.

And Trump could bring along Biden praising Obama for being a clean, well spoken blackman. Or transcripts of his own, "you know, that thing ".

1. If Trump goes into his stalk mode, Biden should ask, Does this look like proper behavior of a President.
2. If Trump interrupts, Biden should ask does is this what a President should do during a debate or is it more for a talk show host.
3. Stick to points that will fact check out as correct. We all know Trump will not be able to do that.

Biden smelling hair again! Q 2024

Biden should bring a sippy cup and a bib. No teleprompter, no aids. Someone should bring butter because he's toast.

I would like to see Trump live tweet from the podium. I am also interested to see if Biden will destroy the perception of his alleged dementia or further cement it.

Hillary was favored by the moderators except in the first debate though, the first debate the moderator let both of them run the show and refused to stop them and restore order to the debates.

In terms of debate tactics, biden is pretty well screwed for two reasons, one he has been unable to handle any interviews that do not include softball questions or teleprompters, and the other his debate performance during the primaries, except for one debate where he was allowed to go on the attack and not get hit with anything tough, he was the worst performer of the democratic primaries. Biden is not bad at debating, he is good, or should I say was good, his age has caught up with him though.

The unable to handle anything not softball or with a teleprompter comes to play with trump, ask yourself why has trump been unshaken in every debate? I will give you the answer, when debates happen even if questions are not told to the people debating, they have a good idea ahead of time what the topics are and what their opponents will use against them giving them time to prepare.

Trump screws this up, not only does he not debate by political norms, he has no script, and when on tv with a script written for him he is lucky to make it through page one before he ditches it and goes random. For biden this is tough, it is hard with even the best planners to plan a debate against someone who is that random and unpredictable, and someone who never read the script in the first place and could wing it off the top of his head.

If you think trump can not do that well he has, he did it in the 2016 primaries, he did it against hillary in the debates, he did it after becoming president and still does it to this day, unscripted and off the top of his head is the only way he works.

Well, there were some interesting predictions in this thread. Based on what we saw last night I'd say Trump is quite predictable. His behavior did not help his cause. He came across just as we expected. He was a sweaty, loud mouthed bullying liar. And his base loved every minute of it.
