MOSCOW, August 23. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Ushakov medals to 17 US citizens for their bravery and bravery in the Northern convoys during the great Patriotic war. The corresponding presidential decree was published on Sunday on the official Internet portal of legal information.

"For personal courage and bravery shown during the Second world war while participating in the Northern convoys, to award US citizens the Ushakov medal," the document says.

The award was given to William Speight Barton, David Eugene Baker, Richard burbine, Raymond Edward Weigand, Jr., Leo Joseph Goulet, Issy Datche, Michael Kemple, George Henry Koch, Jr., Ralph Eric Kristoffersen, Richard Lendolfi, James Baker North, Wallace Leroy Arsand, Howard William Pfeiffer, Wilbert Frank Rosum, Hugh Mart Stephens, Dale Paul Strausser, Trygve Hansen.

During the war, Northern (or Arctic) convoys delivered lend-lease cargo to the Soviet Union from the United States, Canada, and great Britain. Their routes passed through the North Atlantic.

The Ushakov medal was established in the USSR in 1944 to award sailors and soldiers, petty officers and sergeants, midshipmen and ensigns of the Navy and marine units of the border troops "for personal courage and bravery in battles with the enemies of the Soviet Union in the sea theaters." In Russia, it is awarded to members of the Navy and Maritime security agencies of the FSB Border service.

The medal is a relief portrait of Admiral Fyodor Ushakov in a circle, superimposed on an anchor with a chain. The medal is made of silver. In total, more than 15 thousand awards were made.

That was nice of him.

I was reading something today. President Roosevelt sent his aide to Stalin to ask what Stalin needed. Stalin said "aluminum and China keeping the Japanese occupied."

So Rooselvelt stopped all oil sales to Japan. America supplied 85% of Japan's oil needs at the time.

So Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
