French President Emmanuel Macron had incredibly poor approval ratings - even lower that Biden's, yet he still won re-election.

“President Macron appears to have secured a double-digit victory over LePen, at a time when his approval rating is 36%.” WH Chief of Staff Ron Klain wrote.

Assuming that the DNC decides to run Biden in 2024, Do you think that Americans could re-elect Biden despite his abysmal approval ratings?

Biden is 35 years older than Macron, and there is an appetite in America for fresh blood. But that would apply to trump, too, who is no spring chicken.

Yep, but that depends on how unpopular the republicant POTUS nominee is and (possibly) the popularity of any third party candidates. Trump has already proven that Joe “Where am I?” Biden could beat him and Trump may be stubborn (narcissistic?) enough to run as an ‘independent’ if someone else gets the RNC nomination.

“We’ve never had anything like this, and we have a president right now sadly, who has absolutely no idea what the hell is happening. He’s walking around somewhat bewildered. It’s no good - - and taking orders from the Easter Bunny!” Trump said on Saturday.

“In the next election, I’d be very fortunate if I had that same man [Trump] running against me,” Biden said last month.

It is highly unlikely that either of these people will be on the 2024 General Election ballot, IMO. But Macron's re-election victory probably offers a glimmer of hope for Biden.

Of course Biden has a chance...an excellent chance, in fact. His approval numbers remain higher than Trump's and he had a chance.

But to address your direct question, one of the reasons Macron won was because LePen has very, very high negatives. People want a change, but not the type of change the LePen represents. Similarly, people may be disappointed in Biden, but not enough to want to return to Trump or DeSantis, who appears to be a smart Trump on steroids. The French election does, to some extent, reflect some of our politics.

That is a bit of an understatement. If elected, Trump would set the record for oldest president elected. He would be older than Biden is today at this point in his presidency.

What works in France might not work in the US ... American voters vote more out of emotion, French voters more out of reason.
What is your basis for the bolded statement? I actually do not think that is true at all.

They could, but the DNC would be better off finding a superior candidate if at all possible.

It should also be noted that frustration with and hatred of Macron over his explicitly pro-rich agenda at the expense of the rest of his constituents is precisely what enabled Le Pen to gather such momentum and a strong political following in the first place.

No.

The situations are different. The outcome of the election in France means diddly here.

*shrug" that's what the left said about Brexit in 2016.

Both parties need to do some soul searching and find some better options, because having elections where people aren't excited about a candidate is going to discourage people from voting more than is already the case.
