Pres. Joe Biden's choice not to stand with railroad workers...any group of workers should have a minimum of 7 paid work days in the agreements.

The democratic party must stop behaving like the fake republican party.

Let the workers decide!!!!!

Your thread title, thus your post, is BS. Where did you come up with “a minimum of 7 paid work days”? IMHO, employees should be fully paid for all of their “work days”.

If you really meant to say paid for additional non-work days (additional days off for simply claiming not to have felt well?) then why did you change the union’s demand from initially 15 days (and eventually 4 days) to 7 days?

Using the Railway Labor Act’s authority, the government forced the two sides to negotiate, which produced a tentative agreement on Sept. 15. But four out of 12 unions, representing more than half of unionized freight rail employees, voted the agreement down. The biggest quibble: The agreement did not have the four days of paid sick leave seen as a bare minimum concession. Since the unions have agreed to respect each other’s decisions, this set the stage for a strike starting Dec. 9.

The provision to add seven days of paid sick leave failed in the Senate in a 52-43 vote. All Democrats present to vote supported it except Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. Only six Republicans backed the measure.
Senate Republicans killed the seven days off, not Biden.

talking minimum 7 sick days ...........

Biden could have vetoed ...........

President Joe Biden announced Monday that he was siding with freight rail bosses against their workers, who have been at daggers drawn for over half a year. It’s well within Biden’s power to do so — but it is unquestionably a big mistake on his part.

Not only is he badly damaging a valuable pro-labor reputation he has hitherto carefully cultivated, but his decision may also well create the very shipping snarls he’s trying to avoid.

Under that same act, Congress and Biden can make such a strike illegal simply by passing a resolution.

Politico reported that Biden and other top Democrats are worried both about the economic damage a strike would cause and how Republicans would respond to the situation after taking control of the House of Representatives next year. Leaders in Congress are moving fast:

The House on Wednesday passed a bill by a vote of 290-137 to avert a strike, sending it over to the Senate. (They also passed a second bill — which includes seven sick days for workers — and will leave it to the Senate to decide how to proceed.)

Opinion | Biden's support for unions has jumped the tracks

The most pro-union president in decades sided against labor — and may cause the very economic strife he's trying to avoid.

And then Biden should veto the bill and rail workers should go on strike.

If he signs the bill, they should go on strike anyways, even if it’s “illegal”.

If there's a railroad strike, all sorts of shit hits the fan. There is zero way he could have vetoed that bill. Blame should go where it belongs. Republicans sided against sick days.

Cool, I don’t give a **** about blame. I give a **** about railroad workers.

Let shit hit the fan. They should strike anyways.

lol

I guess if you don't give a **** about the rest of America, then sure.

lol

I guess if you don't give a **** about the rest of America, then sure.

The rest of America isn’t forced to work without any form of sick leave.

Maybe the rest of America will force the Republicans to do the right thing if they suffer enough.

If blame is properly placed, then yes. But if y'all are just going to blame Biden for the Republicans actions, then no.

Ummm no, if he vetoed it and the Republicant's in the Senate refused to budge the economy would take a punch in the nuts. Of course, the whiners would blame Biden for vetoing the compromise.... ✌️

Biden could choose to veto the bill. To claim he doesn’t deserve any blame is absurd.

These people aren’t forced to work there at all

Yeah, this was a shit show.

The rights of workers should be significantly improved at the federal level. A voting rights package should be established, as well. Republicans are the primary obstacle to both.

lol

If they're so critical to our nation, they should be millionaires.

Biden could choose to veto the bill. To claim he doesn’t deserve any blame is absurd.
To pretend that pushing the economy into a recession and blowing up inflation even more is an acceptable alternative is even more absurd.

They 100% should have a better union and more tools to gain the appropriate compensation for their labor that is due to them. And asking for 14 or whatever sick days a year is completely reasonable. In a sane world, they should be getting what they are asking for. But this is Corporate Capitalism at its finest. Suppression of labor for the the sake of stock prices.

But to pretend Biden had any other choice in reality but to sign this bill is laughable. He was ****ed. The Republicans denied sick leave, as the Republicans are, as ever, firmly against labor. But he couldn't veto it. Shit is finally starting to recover and to blow it up would be stupid.

“I know that many in Congress shared my reluctance to override the union ratification procedures. But in this case, the consequences of a shutdown were just too great for working families all across the country,” Biden said in the statement.
And he is absolutely right.
