Portland resembles an 'open air drug market' after decriminalizing hard drugs: Overdose deaths skyrocket by 41% in the Democrat-led city as homeless addicts collapse on sidewalks
  • Law enforcement agents say that the streets of Portland are full of homeless addicts openly buying and selling drugs
  • Photos show the desperate situation in the Pacific Northwest city, where people can be seen shooting up drugs or passed out in broad daylight
  • The dreadful scene comes 16 months after Ballot Measure 110 went into effect in February 2021
  • Oregon was the first state in the United States to decriminalize possession of personal-use amounts of heroin, methamphetamine, LSD, oxycodone
  • But since the measure was passed overdose deaths in the state hit an all-time high in 2021 with 1069, a 41 percent increase from 2020

This is what Democrats mean when they say they care about people.

From Fox...
Oregon's drug decriminalization effort a 'tragedy'
Sixteen months into this first-in-the-nation experiment, the numbers paint a bleak picture. Drug overdose deaths hit an all-time high in 2021 with 1069, a 41% increase from 2020. And very few people are getting into treatment. According to The Lund Report, after one year, just 136 people had entered treatment, less than 1% of those helped by Measure 110. But the actual number may be even lower.

Sad.
Mike Marshall, co-founder and director of Oregon Recovers, is not surprised by the dismal treatment numbers following implementation of Measure 110.

"It was never designed to reduce our addiction rates, so it was never designed to deal with our addiction crisis," Marshall says, "It was always meant to deal with the war on drugs."

LOL! What a dumbass liar. That's not how they sold it. Here's some weasel words:
"I don’t think it’s just about getting folks into treatment," says Hurst.
👀

It's not?!?

"It’s also about meeting people and getting people out into the streets doing outreach for folks and getting them life-saving drugs. You can’t save somebody if they overdose and die."

It's about "meeting people" whatever that means.

The Oregon Health Authority, which overseas Measure 110, also defends the lack of people in treatment.
"The lack of people in treatment is a success!"

LOL! Oh wait...he's not done.
"People enter treatment when they are ready to," said OHA spokesman Timothy Heider, "The support being built to help people will meet them where they are."

Where they are? They're at the open air drug market! LOL

Hey tourists! Ready to come spend money downtown?!? 😄

They havent gone far enough. Its still illegal to produce or sell legally. Treat it like alcohol, get through the novelty and itll settle down like alcohol. Let the idiots overdose and kill themselves. Remove the rabble from the streets like we do with public drunkeness. Lock up the problem people.

War on drugs was 50 years of failure and killed far more peopel and created far more problems. Lets wait and see if this is.

Portland became a Mecca for drug addicts because the rest of the country chose to remain in the ignorant past.

Drug abuse/addiction is a medical issue, not a criminal issue. Throwing people in jail for what they do to their own bodies is not only Unconstitutional, it's just plain stupid. Prohibition: causing more problems than it solves since 1920.

Criminalizing drug use doesn't make less drug use happen, OP

So long as they arent doing it in public. Which is the problem here. Portland enabled the dregs to live on the street and bring all their problems with them. They are causing a problem, so it needs to be removed.

Liberals want to get rid of all laws so that they can brag that they eliminated crime.

Drug abuse/addiction is a medical issue,
Most medical plans cover insulin and antibiotics. They should probably cover cocaine and heroine too. Drug addicts are victims. Somebody who wasn't wearing a mask sneezed on them.

Most countries know how to control illegal drugs except for the USA. The correct course of action is to survey other countries for best practices and implement them here.
