VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict on Sunday renewed his appeal to Catholics to reject abortion and euthanasia, saying life was God-given and could not be cut short under "the guise of human compassion."

His appeal came days after an Italian doctor who switched off the life support of a paralyzed man at the center of a euthanasia battle was cleared of wrongdoing by a medical panel.

I dont know where I stand on this issue. I guess it depends on how close my relation to the person in question. I couldn't bear to watch somebody I love suffer but then again I was raised as a catholic(even though I dont practice) and still keep some catholic beliefs in mind when it comes to suicide and abortion.
 
Yeah, well; perhaps people aren't looking for an "excuse".
I hear this all the time from Christians: that's not a good enough excuse to have an abortion. That's not a good enough excuse for homosexuality. Now there's apparently no excuse good enough for euthanasia.
Guess what?
Nobody's looking for an "excuse" to do any of these things, and nobody's asking their permission, either. Nobody owes them any explanation whatsoever.
I wonder if they're starting to get that yet?
 
Have you seen pictures of this guy? For the earthly representative of the supposedly goodest, most benevolent force in the universe, he strikes me as one evil bastard. Definitely not the kind of guy I’d let baby-sit my non-existent kids, and I don’t even like the little shits!

If Ratzinger says something is a bad idea, I’ll take it as a matter of faith that he is trying to lure me into hell, and do the exact opposite just to spite him.
 
I too have mixed feelings about euthanasia. I don't really have any moral problem with a sane person choosing to die to save themselves a slow, painful death. However, I worry that if assisted suicide is legal, the "right to die" will become the "duty to die" if the medical bills start piling up on the family.
