Pompeo to UN: Venezuela is an ‘illegitimate mafia state’ under Maduro

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday told the United Nations “the time is now” to support the efforts of Venezuela’s opposition to oust President Nicolás Maduro.

“The United States stands with the Venezuelan people,” he told the UN Security Council at an emergency meeting called by the US. “We’re here to urge all nations to support the democratic aspirations of the Venezuelan people as they try to free themselves from former President Maduro’s illegitimate mafia state.”

Ish, but make no mistake, Maduros government is a full scale, transnational criminal enterprise masquerading as a nation state.

The level of criminality that Maduros government is, not just part of, not just looking the other way on, not just protecting, but actively participating, controlling and running is unprecedented for a nation of Venezuela’s size and potential.

The only other country that comes to my mind that operates this way, because it is desperate for foreign currency is North Korea.

There is another issue that is not public enough. The Cubans with the help of Russia have successfully put the entier leadership as well as opposition groups in “silos” - a term used to mean no unmonitored communication goes in or out without being compromised.

As a result a coup cannot be organized since to be successful, it needs the military.

The US should take strong action against Cuba.
