Libertarian presidential hopeful Gary Johnson, possibly benefitting from dissatisfaction with the two major parties’ front-runners, is in double digits in a potential three-way race, according to a poll released Thursday.

In a three-way contest, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton was at 42 percent, GOP front-runner Donald Trump was at 34 percent, and Mr. Johnson, who is seeking the Libertarian Party’s nomination, was at 11 percent, according to the Monmouth University poll.

In less than a week, Johnson has come from less than 1 percent to 11 percent, and he is getting support from both Republicans and Democrats, who are dissatisfied with their nominees. If Trump and Hillary bash each other hard enough, Johnson just may stand an outside chance. One thing for certain. The power of the 2 party system is beginning to wane. Probably won't happen this year, but eventually the Reps and Dems are going to have to contend with the Libertarian Party, as people wake up, take a good look around, and find what the 2 parties have done to this country.

Yeah, I suspect that the Libertarian party is about to have a massive increase in members and in corporate funding. Republicans have always pissed on Libertarians, anyways, just like Democrats have always pissed on Greens, so there's no real point in either groups staying in parties that so clearly give zero ****s about them. Therefore, the Green party, too, is about to get a massive boost in members, I'd wager no small sum on that one, either. I'm certainly nearly convinced that I am going to have to join them. If Hillary doesn't pick Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders as her VP, then I'm registering as a Green and honestly I hope that Bernie Sanders and my fellow Sanders supporters follow me.

There has never been a stronger third party election season than 2016.

It sucks that the only way the libertarian candidate gets noticed is when the two main parties put up Satan and his twin.

and former Governor of New Mexico.

Iran is not a threat, will not follow Israel, morally pro-choice and supports same sex marriage, and currently is a pot CEO. He's definitely gonna pull in Cruz supporters.

Balance the budget, reduce taxes, and reduce entitlements? Gonna pull a lot of Bernie supporters considering most of them have a world view with some variant of economic determinism.

So? I didn't think half of the idiots would buy into Trump but they did. Despite the fact Trump is Hillary Clinton with a bad comb over.

an Ideal America is one where the two parties are Libertarians and the conservatives

meaning everyone is pro economic freedom, pro gun rights, pro tax payer and the dispute is between social issue freedom supporters vs cultural control freaks

Foriegn policy is very different between libertarians and conservatives.

that is often true-sound point. But at one time conservatives were opposed to the left wing nation building and american adventurism. Things changed with Viet Nam when the left became cynical about American Primacy and nation building and this is where the Neocon movement started as the Democrats started renouncing our support of Israel

The 2 party system will always exist as long as we have a FPTP voting system.

Gary Johnson could double his support and still end up with 0 EVs

Hopefully he doesn't screwed regarding ballot access, because what ever lead won't matter if his name isn't on all the ballots.

Interesting, they will probably still not allow him in the debates. But I'll be voting LP for sure this election....again.

I think the benefit to the Libertarian Party will greatly exceed the boost to the Green Party. Mostly because I think the Democratic Party will coalesce around Clinton more completely than the GOP does around Trump.

I honestly have no certainty, other than to say that the Green and Libertarian party will be increasing in numbers, both. How much, how relative, it's totally unclear. It'd be a serious mistake to think that right-wing libertarians (largely Gen X'ers) will in line with the GOP and the left-wing libertarians/progressives/socialists will just fall in line line with the DNC... That would be a very optimistic outcome for Hillary. I seriously doubt that that solidarity in either party will happen in droves. At least a third of the Republican base fervently hates Trump and a third of the Democratic base fervently hates Hillary. I heard a commentator state "It's not unreasonable to think that either of them, after a protracted 7 month negative campaigns, could enter the White House with approvals ratings in single digits." I tend to suspect that's a rather reasonable possibility. Independents hate Hillary and they hate Trump, both alienated at least a third of their base, and both are about to be exposed as massive corporate shills (Trump is certainly about to take on loads and loads of debt to corporations, Wall Street, etc to get the money he needs to take on Hillary, and he's already said so).

I foresee a drifting of party's bases or else an emergence of a third party. We've reached that point, I think, when finally last year more than 50% of voters are registered as Independents, and the only people who actually get serious, grassroots supports are (morally third-party) people like Sanders and Trump, and previously Paul.

Works for me. I am running Linux Mint, a Ubuntu variation, at home. Works much smoother than Windoze. Haven't seen a blue screen of death in ages.

Maybe, maybe not...

article said:
The existing debate rules state that a presidential candidate must “have a level of support of at least 15% (fifteen percent) of the national electorate as determined by five national public opinion polling organizations selected by CPD, using the average of those organizations’ most recent publicly-reported results at the time of the determination.” This 15-percent hurtle leaves out important criteria, such as how polls should be worded, which polling organizations will be used, and when these polls should be taken. Cherry picking polling companies and adjusting the timing are just a few ways to tilt the outcome.

Can't tell if serious...

Also, I've never really given Linux Mint an honest chance. Always used OpenSuSE for my Linux needs.
