Poll: Obama

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's winning coalition from 2008 has crumbled and his core backers are dispirited. It's now Republicans who stand to benefit from an electorate that's again craving change.

Nearly two years after putting Obama in the White House, one-quarter of those who voted for the Democrat are defecting to the GOP or considering voting against the party in power this fall. Just half of them say they definitely will show up Nov. 2, according to an Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll released two weeks before Obama's first midterm elections.

Just a note of caution here. Sure the momentum is out there and real , but relying on people who are not fully informed and easily swayed is dangerous. They can flip back easily AND some of this polling is inaccurate probably . Kentucky and Colorado are not 100% in the bag for the GOP and unfortunately Delaware should be.

We may find that the public is not as stupid as Obama et al think. It could be that we really do have a representative form of government and when the congress passes bills that their constituents did not want they can actually be fired!!

Does anyone find it incredible that congress and the president still talk about all that they have done, it is just that the people who elect them can't quite comprehend all the good they have bestoad on them. Could it be that Obama is just another Ivy leaager who thinks he knows more than everyone. The only difference is he looks different so we overlooked the fact that he had no credidentials for the job.

Maybe there is hope for america.

If you're going to switch parties *why not* give a damn about representing your *actual feelings and thoughts* on the issues by joining a party which *reflects* those?
We're too much about 'oh yeah, take that!' and using parties as weapons rather than actually being *involved* in politics.

So much for our founding fathers actually coming up with a novel and new approach to governing - they just really make a mockery out of democracy with teh false belief that if they turned it into a popularity shindig then people would use their brains to vote.

They should have restricted the right to vote, set up some requirements, and really tried to think of how it could be abused - and then make efforts to avoid that.

This country pisses me off sometimes.

personally i'm all in favor of poll testing. simple things like "name the three branches of government" and "without looking at the ballot, who are you voting for"?

Such ideas have long been around and IF dealing with Honorable Men then they'd be beneficial . However it's a Slippery Slope with this kind of stuff. Do We restrict Voting to Property Owners (??) as was the original view as the Nation was founded OR some compotency tests (??)

Well into the 20th Century Political hack Registrar of Voters in the South prevented Blacks from registering to Vote based on n "on the spot" comprehension test. That and the Poll Tax. Condi Rice's Father in like 1950 in Birmingham was excluded which is WHY the Family became Republicans.

We do need to be more selective here such as insuring only valid Citizens Vote, and even that at this dismal stage will be a hard sell.
 
absolutely we need to make enforcing photo identification a priority. however, when it comes to restricting the vote we are dealing with well-what-ifs. personally, i would like to see the vote restricted in all kinds of ways; i'd like to see the 17th Amendment repealed, i'd like to see that kind of poll test that i mentioned above, and i wouldn't be too opposed if a state wanted to restrict the vote to only those who net pay taxes.

It wouldn't be left to the States, Such aan action would eventually wind up before the SCOTUS and odds are such a State measure gets tossed.
