Poll: New Jersey Senate race remains a tie
POSTED: 8:46 a.m. EDT, September 20, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate race in New Jersey, which a Republican hasn't won in 34 years, remains virtually tied with less than two months before Election Day, a poll released Wednesday shows.

Among likely voters, including those leaning toward a candidate, Republican challenger Tom Kean Jr. holds a 48-45 percent edge over Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez, the Quinnipiac University poll showed. Six percent remain undecided. This survey of 688 likely voters has an error margin of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points

Most of the recent polls I have seen have the Republican candidate in the lead.

Quinnipiac: September 20, 2006
Menendez (D): 45%
Kean (R): 48%

Strategic Vision: September 14, 2006
Menendez (D): 40%
Kean (R): 44%

Rasmussen: August 31, 2006
Menendez (D): 39%
Kean (R): 44%

I think Republicans may take this one.

Menendez supports illegal immigration amnesty, not a good thing in a state where the immigrant population has increased an average of 50% over the last 10 years, with the Indian/Pakistani population increasing by over 70% in some counties. And they are REALLY pissed off about the amnesty issue.

I agree with you ngdawg (I know both you and I are from NJ). Another point to remember is name appeal. Kean is the son of a very popular 2-term NJ governor from the 80's.
