I'm surprised that even 13% of Canadians could even contemplate becoming the 51st state - especially with Donald Trump as President!

"MacLeans Magazine" published an article entitled "HOW CANADA STOLE THE AMERICAN DREAM" - the conclusions, however, are just as relevant in 2024 as when it was written!

- Canadians live 2.5 years LONGER than Americans.

- Canadians are 6X LESS likely to be incarcerated

- "World Economic Forum" ranks Canadians as the 6th HAPPIEST people in the world, while Americans register 13th.

- in the United States, 46% of the population has been able to obtain a COLLEGE DEGREE—in Canada it’s 59%

- Canadians are more likely to find work, with an EMPLOYMENT RATE 4% better.]

- in Canada HOME OWNERSHIP rates are 5% higher.

- Canadians WORK over 80 hours (2 weeks) fewer per year—and they take an extra three days VACATION

- Cato Institute’s "Human Freedom Index" considers Canadians to be the sixth FREEST PEOPLEf in the world, while Americans limp in at 23rd, behind Poland.

- the conservative "Heritage Foundation," based in Washington, ranks Canada and the U.S. seventh and 17th respectively for ECONOMIC FREEDOM

- "Reporters Without Borders" scores Canada 18th for PRESS FREEDOM; in spite of its much vaunted First Amendment, America only manages 41st

- "The American Dream" promises EQUALITY, a level playing field where everyone could pull themselves up by their bootstraps, but that too is more a Canadian thing. Canada’s “Gini coefficient”, a measurement of economic inequality, is significantly better than America’s and has been for 80 years now.

- in Canada, citizens are twice as likely to move from the poorest quintile of the population to the wealthiest. Similarly, the link between the income of a parent and a child is half as strong in Canada.

I think the poll where it says13% of Canadians want Canada to become the 51st U.S. says a lot.

Apparently this President-elect never got the memo that "WORDS HAVE CONSEQUENCES" - is Trump also "JOKING" when he threatens to impose a 25% tariff any more than when he suggests Canada become the 51st State!

Trump supporters have made a habit of re-interpreting his words - apparently the rest of us are at fault when we attempt to hold him accountable for those words coming out of his own mouth!

We are being led to believe that there's a disconnect between what Trump says and what he actually means - his supports are only too glad to provide their own interpretation with a "POSITIVE SPIN" on his public pronouncements, no matter how outrageous or offensive!
