I don't know Bill. :2razz:

From what I can gather, bills in congress can be all of the above and typically turn out that way because of amendments, negotiations, etc.
What may start out based on fact, could end up being totally political in nature.

Politics are about the fight to control people, or fighting the controllers and seeking maximum liberty without creating a state of anarchy.

Laws are required for a civil society, and protecting liberty.

Problem is we have idiots that tell us how big our toilets should be, what light bulbs to use, force us to buy health insurance, tax us progressively for the purposes of creating tensions amongst the populace, and on-and-on.

.

Bills in Congress currently? Is that what you are asking, or just in general?

Politics are about voicing your beliefs and having them govern in government. We decide on what is true, what are priorities, what is right, and that becomes our political philosophy. We act upon our political philosophy to encourage the representation of our beliefs through political actions (like voting, protest, etc).

I am going to agree with Digsbe on this one and add to it. Ultimately, politics is about the attempt to bring about a society that we feel would be better.

Politics are about running civilization and society. The root word of "politics" is "polis," which is Greek for "city." Nowadays cities are everywhere, but back then cities were the major centers for trade, commerce, and learning. All other areas were villages, farms, or wilderness.

I think there are a lot of people who forget that and instead use politics to mean "ways I can instill the beliefs I like onto other people." While politics and the functions of government inevitably instills a particular set on how things are run, good politicos do it for the benefit of city/society at large and not just because they have the power to do it. There's a clear difference.

You are NOT totally wrong ,Zimmer..
We do need a better people, more intelligent, better educated....then hopefully, we will have better government AND a better private sector.
Until that time, we need tolerance and understanding....to the max.
Its the people who are the so-called "idiots". Those men who do NOT know how to size a toilet, or few other things as well!
Man, as yet is not smart enough to take good care of himself..
Oh, some of us are, but the vast majority.......no.....
And rather than have a progressive tax, lets regress to the Biblical Days, when all were heavily taxed the same...rich or poor....and think of what these taxes were used for...
I'll take 2010, myself, but things could always be better..The local and school taxes are a killer (1.5 to 4K$, depending on a man's property)....

I wouldn't mind having candidates state where they stand... clearly. Who they are... clearly. Who they have associated with and why... clearly. What they would like to do... clearly. Those that don't should be hammered by the press until they do. If that were the case we would see about 20% of the number Libs being elected... and Obama would never have sniffed the Dem nomination.

Not even Congressmen men know the bills in Congress. They make them too long, too complicated, and it's all about the back door deal with these things.

You missed the bit "man is not yet smart enough to take care of himself". I'd love to see absolute openness and honesty - it would be a first..
The trouble is, general perception = "socialism" rings a bad bell...I do not go by "perceptions"...man is a social creature. Why is this so denied by so many?
What causes the pealing of bells is "run-away socialism".
We do need balance.

Well, how else can they get the loopholes they need to benefit their corporate campaign donors?

I have no idea what you're asking.

The process of deciding who gets what and how.

Politics are...

enormous popularity contests not at all based upon a candidate's intellect, or competence (in todays day and age).

As such, politics are about becoming more popular than the other guy, for more time, with more people. And doing whatever you can to achieve that goal

Politics are about convincing as many people as possible that someone else has all the answers who they should listen to, for those who are too smart for that trap politics is about making them hate the other guy more than you. And at all times, never compromise your ideas.

Power is a result of propaganda, popularity, manipulation and beating the other guy.

CC can't speak for himself or what?
