Polar Bears Are Thriving

[h=2]It’s back: Bering Sea polar bear habitat has recovered from a low earlier this month[/h]Posted on March 18, 2019 | Comments Offon It’s back: Bering Sea polar bear habitat has recovered from a low earlier this month
Fancy that! After a load of handwringing earlier this month, mobile pack ice in the Bering Sea has returned. Just like ice in the Barents Sea, Bering Sea ice is highly variable (Brown et al. 2011): it moves with winds and currents, so a ‘decline’ during the winter usually indicates redistribution, not melting.

According to researcher Rick Thoman from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, quoted by the Canadian Press:
“Wind blew ice to Russian beaches in the west and to the south side of Norton Sound south of Nome but left open water all the way to Chukchi Sea north of the Bering Strait.”
Polar bears that venture into the Bering Sea are part of the Chukchi Sea subpopulation, which is known to be thriving (Crockford 2019; AC SWG 2018; Regehr et al. 2018; Rode and Regehr 2010; Rode et al. 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018).

POLAR BEAR NUMBERS COULD HAVE QUADRUPLED

  • Date: 19/03/19
  • Press Release, Global Warming Policy Foundation
Researcher says attempts to silence her have failed

Polar bear numbers could easily exceed 40,000, up from a low point of 10,000 or fewer in the 1960s.

In The Polar Bear Catastrophe that Never Happened, a book published today by the Global Warming Policy Foundation, Dr Susan Crockford uses the latest data as well as revisiting some of the absurd values used in official estimates, and concludes that polar bears are actually thriving:
My scientific estimates make perfect sense and they tally with what the Inuit and other Arctic residents are seeing on the ground. Almost everywhere polar bears come into contact with people, they are much more common than they used to be. It’s a wonderful conservation success story.”
Crockford also describes how, despite the good news, polar bear specialists have consistently tried to low-ball polar bear population figures.
They have also engaged in a relentless smear campaign in an attempt to silence her in order to protect the story of a polar bear catastrophe, and the funding that comes with it.
A few unscrupulous people have been trying to destroy my reputation”, she says. “But the facts are against them, and they have failed”.

About the book
The Polar Bear Catastrophe That Never Happened explains why the catastrophic decline in polar bear numbers we were promised in 2007 failed to materialize. It’s the story of how and why the polar bear came to be considered ‘Threatened’ with extinction, and tracks its rise and fall as an icon of the global warming movement. The book also tells the story of Crockford’s role in bringing that failure to public attention and the backlash against her that ensued – and why, among all others who have attempted to do so previously, she was uniquely positioned to do so. In general, this is a cautionary tale of scientific hubris and of scientific failure, of researchers staking their careers on untested computer simulations and later obfuscating inconvenient facts. For the first time, you’ll see a frank and detailed account of attempts by scientists to conceal population growth as numbers rose from an historical low in the 1960s to the astonishing highs that surely must exist after almost 50 years of protection from overhunting. There is also a blunt account of what truly abundant populations of bears mean for the millions of people who live and work in areas of the Arctic inhabited by polar bears.

[h=2]How to hide 30,000 Polar Bears[/h]
A new book from Susan Crockford and published by GWPF looks interesting. It’s called The Polar Bear Catastophe That Never Happened but maybe it could have been called “How to hide 30,000 Polar Bears” which the Green-Scare Machine has apparently done under a mountain of smear and indignation. This is a story of the concealment and the backlash — the failure of science.
“Polar bear numbers could easily exceed 40,000, up from a low point of 10,000 or fewer in the 1960s.”
Polar bear numbers have grown four-fold during the last fifty years (obviously climate change has been good for them). But WWF is still running stories headlined: Polar bear population decline a wake up call for climate change action.
The issue of polar bears is a bit esoteric for Australians, though we are still accosted by their posters, but it’s not so esoteric for people in little towns of Canada like Labrador where a bear was roaming the streets a couple of weeks ago.
At least they weren’t invaded by 52 polar bears like the Russian town Belushaya Guba was. Those fat healthy bears stayed for two months or so and even wandered into buildings.
Since a full grown male can weight 700kg and is the largest carnivorous mammal on land, that sounds like a Bruce Willis movie plot. Though polar bears in Russia are protected “because they are endangered” (though from what, I can’t tell you). If Bruce shot one he’d be breaking the law.
The invasion of bears was of course, also blamed on “climate change”.

[h=2]The Faked Crisis: Polar Bear Expert’s Book Poised To Become Hot Seller, Expose Polar Alarmism Community[/h]By P Gosselin on 21. March 2019
A newly released book is bad news for global warming alarmists who are desperately seeking bad news for fueling their fear-based, non-scientific movement.
Polar bear expert and veteran zoologist Dr. Susan J. Crockford has just released her latest book titled: “The Polar Bear Catastrophe That Never Happened“.
As the title says: there never was a polar bear crisis due to global warming. It was made up to scare the public. The numbers back it up. . . .

She has been uniformly right. Her critics have been uniformly wrong. This book will close the debate.

I notice DR. Crockford haters show great reluctance to show where they think she is wrong about, but that requires thinking and study which is beyond the capabilities of most warmists, who have become so accustomed to insults and ad homs instead, which is a sign of scientific illiteracy and immaturity.

In fairness, the AGW advocates here are handicapped because Crockford's opponents have gone completely silent.

A new book with unexpected good news about polar bears

Larry Kummer, Editor Book, Film, & TV Reviews, Science & Nature 21 March 2019 Summary: This is a fascinating book about science, about the making of public policy, about climate change, and above all – about nature. They all intersect in the debate about the future of polar bears. Review of a fact-rich, logical, and…

Why not? AlGore did. Got hisself an Oscar, book award, and Emmy. All for making this stuff up.

Well... it was HIS book.

Of course, it wasn’t ‘made up ‘, but (much like the subject of my post) that’s too complicated for you to comprehend.

Is she still on the Heartland payroll?

There is literally nothing on the web about climate change that isn't tainted in some way. Perhaps we should just ignore it all and dump our dirty motor oil in the gutter like in the old days. God will clean it up when the spring rains come along.

That's possible. I just checked her background, nothing else. I now know exactly what she'd say on any related topic.

Crockford is calling out her critics. It will be interesting to see whether they respond, or continue to hide.

[h=2]Latest global polar bear abundance ‘best guess’ estimate is 39,000 (26,000-58,000)[/h]Posted on March 26, 2019 | Comments Offon Latest global polar bear abundance ‘best guess’ estimate is 39,000 (26,000-58,000)
It’s long past time for polar bear specialists to stop holding out for a scientifically accurate global estimate that will never be achieved and determine a reasonable and credible ‘best guess’. Since they have so far refused to do this, I have done it for them. My extrapolated estimate of 39,000 (range 26,000-58,000) at 2018 is not only plausible but scientifically defensible. . . .

Ironically, despite the huge effort made by polar bear specialists and climate change activists to silence and discredit me over the last year or so, all it’s done is made more people willing to listen to what I have to say. My new book is selling phenomenally well and getting great reviews: if you haven’t ordered your ebook or paperback copy, you can do so here.

LOL! Seriously? The Global Warming Policy Foundation? Are you not aware that the GWPF is a right-wing anti-science activist group, not a scientific publisher?
That poster does nothing but post BS from complete hack sites. Knew it as soon as I saw the post. Just more lazy, ****ty trolling on this forum

Just another data-dodging post. AGW advocates will do anything to avoid the substance of the debate.

So, if you believe nothing you call a "right-wing anti-science activist group" is right about science, then why do you not prove them wrong with your excellent grasp of real science? There is no real science which proves facts wrong, in spite of secularist claims to the contrary.
