PKK halts withdrawal of Kurdish rebels from Turkey | News | DW.DE | 09.09.2013

Kurdish rebels have halted withdrawing fighters from Turkey. Though no deadline had existed, under a ceasefire agreed in March the withdrawal is key to a long-term peace plan.
Turkey 'rejects democratic reforms'
In the statement, the PKK also accused the government of failing to adopt a package of democratic reforms designed to reinforce the rights of the Kurdish minority in Turkey - an estimated 15 million people. In return for withdrawing its estimated 2,500 fighters in Turkey, the PKK has demanded amendments to the penal code and electoral laws as well as the right to education in the Kurdish language and a form of regional autonomy.

Read the article at the top for more info.

So basically the kurds are trying to keep up their side of the agreement to end the bloodshed but the turks aren't.
My thoughts.
Yes, the kurds should have the right to get an education in the kurdish language. But unless Turkey's constitution allows for federalization of some kind, making demands of regional autonomy is absurd.
As for the rest of the demands, I don't know the specifics of each but I am sure that in order to end the bloodshed, compromises on both sides need to be made.

Turkey also receives development aid from the EU in value of over 200mil euros a year. I think these packages should stop until the civil right violations of kurdish ethnics stops.

calling terrorists rebel is not friendly.

they are terrorists who get only % 7 0r 8 of all votes in every election

they dont represent all kurds

there is only one official language in this country but every minority can learn their mother language in their own schools

but kurds are not regarded as a minority although they can speak their language and take kurdish classes in schools in the southeast

do you know why ?

all the west wants to ignore the lausanne treaty which doesnt recognize teh kurds as a minority

you know which civilized countries signed it

but they want to ignore it

UK and USA's biggest dream will come true soon after syria turkey war starts

have a good day

In re: Bolded statements.

What article of the treaty covers this specific circumstance?

U.K. and U.S.A. happy? I think not; both countries have treaty/defense pacts with Turkey which would entail them defending Turkey.

Have a great day, Medusa

This is a strawman. Furthermore the US never ratified that treaty. So I call bull**** on both counts.

If so, this is going to somewhat frustrate Turkey's ability to project power confidently into the Caucasus and down into the Levant. Interesting.
