Done did it again last March for our Lab, yeah, ruff...(ha?)The hardest thing a pet owner has to do...say goodbye to their furry friend.
I stay with them as they pass. I bawl my eyes out. Then a month or two later I fall in love with a new one...the only way to fill the void. My avatar dog is only 2 years old...I expect to have him a long time.Done did it again last March for our Lab, yeah, ruff...(ha?)
It's tough. Can't be selfish, can't just.... give the best days you can.
Of course.I stay with them as they pass.
My moments will come. Wife is already there. Day by day Dear....I bawl my eyes out.
Cute pup with cute pattern. Some sort of Spanial? Then a month or two later I fall in love with a new one...the only way to fill the void. My avatar dog is only 2 years old...I expect to have him a long time.
King Charles Spaniel to some degree. I need to get a test done to see how much. His tongue is too big for his mouth so it sticks out most of the time. True to his breed he's worthless as a guard dog...loves everyone.Of course.

Sympathies to you... I'll know when it's time. Wife won't. Both lose it...I feel for you and your Yorkie. We had a black Miniature Schnauzer female who had a few issues later in her 10 1/2 year life. We had her since she was just a little puppy. First, a fatty tumor in her front between her front legs that got removed. It wasn’t cancerous, but looking back, I’m not sure that didn’t eventually take her.
She would have an occasional seizure. Then, all of a sudden, she became very lethargic with no appetite. We took her to the weekend animal hospital on a Saturday afternoon where they couldn’t really tell what her issue was except her white cells were elevated. She stayed there until Monday morning when we were told she wasn’t really in better shape. She could barely move around the welcoming room, and I knew it was the end of the road. We weren’t going to prolong her misery.
A 35-lb energetic dog who lost all her energy in an instant. For the final time that afternoon, I took her into the backyard, her backyard, and she did something we had never seen her do before- she laid in the grass by one of the trees, her back to us and the house, and she took in the breeze, the scents, and the sights all around her for about 15 minutes. It was her way of saying farewell to her world. We went to the vet that evening and sent her over the rainbow bridge.
If you’re lucky, you’ll see the signs in a quick fashion so your pet won’t suffer too long. Until then, enjoy every minute of love she gives you. Now, if you’ll pardon me, I’ve got go dry my eyes…
My vet told me a long time ago when I was dealing with a similar issue that if the pet is eating well and the tail is wagging more often than not, that is good thing. If pet is not eating well, tail is rarely wagging, pet seems more withdrawn/quiet, it's 'probably' best to come to terms with doing what is in the pet's best interests. So Toy Yorkie went in yesterday to get a growth on her paw looked at, and check up in general, being last visit tests indicated was into it. Along with pancreas issues(15 now).
Not good now. Saying 6 months?...
Still has pretty good days, besides appetite and what She wants to eat. Mostly just lays in her blanket, but not lethargic. Still gets spunky at times.
Got some pet fish oil and probiotic to hopefully make her feel a tad better.
Don't know if I want to do any IV fluids or not. I may, not to prolong, but to hopefully ease any discomfort she may have. But doing so may prolong some discomfort she may be in......Double edged sword.
Dealt with it? How did you handle it?
Do whatever we can to ease, but time is time.
There's nothing comfortable about going on an IV. Pets tend not to understand it.Sympathies to you... I'll know when it's time. Wife won't. Both lose it...
Really just wondering if we should IV or not? Making more comfortable, or just making things worse for the inevitable?
Still a blessing. The sparkle isn't gone. But good at hiding.....?As hard as it was on us (we have lots of animals), we make the decisions on end of life for our 4 legged family members based on what is best for them. When they have lost a quality of life and life as they know it is more of a burden than blessing...we put them down.
Same thing....The last puppy I had to have put to sleep was a Samoyed husky and was just the most unconditional loving creature I have ever known. I held her paw throughout the whole procedure and she looked at me and licked my hand...and I just know she was saying thank you, I love you, and goodbye one last time. Her last activity on earth was to help me through my grief.
Fricken dogs...amiright?
I dont know what I will do if I ever have to put my current dogs down.
Yet they don't have much reaction to a needle at the vet. Or do they?...There's nothing comfortable about going on an IV. Pets tend not to understand it.
Did not deal with that but my Wife brought home a kitten that I was very angry about one day. The next day he was sleeping against my arm and has since been my constant shadow. When he was about 8 months old he got very sick and we took him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a twisted large intestine and required emergency surgery to remove a length of his intestine. It was several thousand dollars which if you asked me a year prior if I would do that I would have said you were crazy. So Toy Yorkie went in yesterday to get a growth on her paw looked at, and check up in general, being last visit tests indicated was into it. A needle at the vet is momentary. An IV is an eternity of restraint by comparison. They can't move around when they're on it.Yet they don't have much reaction to a needle at the vet. Or do they?...
