I'm looking for a personal safety device that you can put on your keychain. This is for my daughter when she's walking to her car at night after work. I've been looking at reviews for ones like Hootie and SLForce. Anyone use them? Recommendations?

Thanks!

I forget the name of the product, but my 21 year old daughter has a keychain personal safety alarm.

Throws out something like 140dB which is damn near ear-piercing if not paralyzing. You can hear it from a good distance.

Thanks! Have you, or do you know anyone that has one of those? I've been reading reviews and sometimes all that ends up doing is making me more unsure..lol.
I carry this in my purse. You do not want to be hit in the face with this stuff because it hurts. It will quickly stop 2 or 4-legged scum. I have a second canister that I carry on walks or bike rides.
I have used it multiple times to stop dogs that have chased me. After their first experience, they now run when they see me coming.

Check the local laws where she is. Pepper spray is classified as a weapon here in NJ…and I’m sure in other places also.

As someone that worked as a bartender for years, my best advice is move her vehicle to a closer spot before the end of her shift while there are still people around. Whether or not she can do that, don’t walk to the car alone and don’t close alone. Also, if there is security, ask them to escort her to her car after work.

Last I heard, it was legal to carry no more than a 1/2 ounce canister of pepper spray in NJ. I have a few I ordered from Amazon. If pepper spray is illegal in your state, Amazon will not ship it there. Nor will they ship any amount greater than the amount legal in your state.

It isn’t illegal. It is classified as a weapon. So if you discharge it, you can face criminal prosecution, even if the discharge was an accident or you “thought” you were in danger. You can also face civil suit.

Absolutely correct. People get themselves into trouble believing they are justified carrying and using various self-defense implements and end up getting criminally charged themselves. It sucks but the law is the law.

I had a larger pepper spray for years that I carry in my cargo pant pocket when hiking in the mountains or woods, or walking the dog in local parks. I tested it one day after having it for a long time, and the spray did not seem strong. I did replace it with a small Sabre that I carry daily. I have never had to use either for man or animal. Good to know that you used it, and it was effective, thanks.

I always think that something like that would hurt the woman's ears too. Since I walk with my dog, I wouldn't want to hurt or affect his hearing in a negative way. Lots of people these days ignore alarms, like car alarms. If at any distance at all, they are pretty much ignored.

It does, but she is prepared for it whereas the person attacking is really not prepared for it.

Agreed on animals being close, it cannot be a good thing.

Considering that hearing damage starts at around 80db after sustained exposure and immediate hearing damage starts at 120db, I'd say 140db would do the trick. My only concern is that your daughter has ears too.

I can't even imagine what 140db would be like. My table saw is 90-95db and that seems loud AF to me.
