In the 1970s and 1980s, tons of Catholic priests were murdered, tourtured, dissappeared, many catholic liety the same, for practicing their religion ... in Central America, El Salvador, Nigeragua, Chile, Argentina, Brazin and so on ... Priests and Bishops were hunted down, put in front of firing squads and killed.
Yet in the US I don't hear the Christian right ever bring that up, NEVER, most of the so called christian right that loves to play victom, love to pretend they are being persecuted, never bring up the murder of Catholic priests and bishops in Latin America in the 70s and 89s .... Why?
Because they were liberation theologists (i.e. people that take the Gospel and its social message seriously), and because they were murdered by regiems backed by the United States ... they were focusing on helping the poor, and that is unacceptable to the right wing ... they were focusing on following the example of Christ and the early church in social matters ... and that is unnaceptable to the right.
Priests, by the hundreds were dragged before firing squads, inprisoned, tortured for practicing their faith, for service to God, while almost all of the so called christian right stood by silently.
It just goes to show the real God of many on the christian right, it's Capitalism and the State ....
