“And again, when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done."
Donald Trump

" Among the awards: $183 million to firms including Rolls-Royce and ArcelorMittal to maintain the shipbuilding industry; tens of millions of dollars for satellite, drone and space surveillance technology; $80 million to a Kansas aircraft parts business suffering from the Boeing 737 Max grounding and the global slowdown in air travel; and $2 million for a domestic manufacturer of Army dress uniform fabric."

I'm not sure the mafia is this corrupt.

Absolutely maddening, but there is clearly little to be done.

This ocean of quasi-legal money is the ultimate incentive for just about everyone involved in politics, law enforcement and/or the defense industry.

While it is there, we will always be a corrupt nation, but it appears that's been the plan for some time.

Capitalists would suck the marrow out of a whale's baculum for a nickle.

Check this out...

"But it shows how the blizzard of bailout cash was — in some cases — redirected to firms that weren’t originally targeted for assistance. It also shows how difficult it has been for officials to track how money is spent and — in the case of Congress — intervene when changes are made. The Trump administration has done little to limit the defense firms from accessing multiple bailout funds at once and is not requiring the companies to refrain from layoffs as a condition of receiving the awards."

Republicans???

hahahaha

Typical solution throw money at a problem with little to no accountability and laws open to wildly different interpretation. Then act outraged when it’s discovered the money with little accountability wasn’t used as you hoped And loopholes got exploited.
Pentagon officials counter that they have been fully transparent with both Democrats and Republicans in Congress about their plans for the money.
It seems Congress didn’t pay attention to how the money was being spent

Big business was always goingt to hijack the bailouts and suppor packages. That's what they do. Watch none of this money going to the employees, or towards production or development, but all of it going into the pockets of the executives and the richer shareholders.

it's Congress' fault for not watching. not the people who spent money on non COVID stuff earmarked for COVID stuff during a Pandemic.

If Congress has oversight and it's up to their discretion on how funds are spent then yes it is their fault they didn't pay attention to how the money was used. If Congress gave the money to those companies to do with as they see fit then they have no legitimate complaint that companies did as they saw fit. You can't have it both ways

well, it's now public. but i doubt they will give the money back.

i have a different expectation of people/entities than a lot of you guys. i expect them to do the right thing and not be babysat.

Very Republican of you wanting to see less government oversight and regulations and allow companies to self police themselves and do the right thing.

i didn't say no oversight. i said i expect people to spend pandemic money on pandemic things during a pandemic (and i expect more from people than you).

Neither side did the right thing. The companies should of spent the funds better and Congress should of paid attention to how the funds were being spent.

it's public. they know.

now, are they gonna give the money back (that was intended for the pandemic)?

I would say it's about aa likely as Congress members resigning for failing to fulfill their oversight duties.

i need to get a gig like this. be given $$$$ to pay bills, spend it on beer and hookers and blame it on the people that told me what to spend it on.

and then not give it back.

America. 2020.

The employed did not ask the government to treat the potential coronavirus threat as if there was no reason for concern. As a result COVID 19 came upon us and is not going away. Meanwhile the GOP government is still advising no need to worry all will be swell.

No one knows when COVID 19 will go away. Therefore government assistance should remain in place until further notice. Subjecting the nations once employed work force or for that matter any of us to congressional irresponsible behavior every few weeks is not acceptable.

Taxpayers are a credible investment for they will see that the tax dollars get back into the economy pronto aka the practical approach.

Taxpayers are an investment thus provide strength to the economy = best bang for our tax bucks. I'm sure the lions share of unemployed taxpayers would rather be receiving a paycheck instead of unemployment insurance.

Elected and negligent GOP officials pay themselves more than $3,370 per week ( $174,000-$194,000 annually) plus a variety of expense accounts = Over rated and over paid!

We taxpayers should receive stimulus money @ $ 2000 twice a month to spend in the economy which would assist to insure job security and plenty of economic growth. Home improvement, tires, food, mortgage or rent, books, school supplies, winter coats, shoes, utility bills, medical bills etc etc. After all tax dollars do belong to the taxpayers.

Millions have lost their jobs, 200,000 should not have died and thousands of employers are going out of business all due to the negligence of the right wing radical anti american GOP.

--- What Did RINO Conservatives Do With $700 billion of bank bail out money?

About the passage of the GW Bush administration’s $700 billion bailout of Wall Street. But what were the factors in deciding who received bailout funds? And what happened to all the money? The answer to those two simple questions is: We don’t know. In a new article in Vanity Fair, the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative team Donald Barlett and James Steele try to find an answer. The problem is, they write, “once the money left the building, the government lost all track of it.”
