Pentagon Releases Grim Report on Iraq

This report in and of itself gives us nothing new. Anyone paying attention to the Iraq War knows full well things are not going well, and knows the prospect of ending anytime soon is non-existant. I do see this as a negative for the Administration in a few ways, as it will give fodder to Rabid Democrats intent on taking advantage of Republican weakness. If anyone thinks this is some sort of wake up call they have not been paying attention to world affairs, as this is simply a documentation of what we already see everyday.
Is there Good news in Iraq as well....of course there is. But it is unfortunately far outweighed by these continuous reports of death and destruction, taken in the context of a failing occupation in a country unlikely to support democracy as we know it. We are in the Middle (in my opinion) of a failed attempt at regime change, and sorely in need of direction change if we wish to salvage anything worth keeping. This is an inevitable result of the lack of vision this war entails.
I personally find it rather disheartening to think this is the best we can do, when confronted with very difficult times.....I had hoped we were better than this, and I hope we wake up to the obvious realities soon.

This report looks at 3 month chunks. Also worth noting are month to month trends.

So yes, while things as a whole over the past 3 months have been bad, they've been getting better for almost 5 weeks now. Why is the media making a big deal about the increased number of deaths now, when in reality they've been decreasing for over a month?
You are right. The article lumps all three months into a group and fails to mention that deaths were down drastically down in August... typical of the N. Y. Times.

The best plan is stay the course, it is, I don't know how to word it so those confused can understand, but it is "stay the course"

Those on the ground are trying new things everyday, and they are making progress, but from us they need, "stay the course" damnitt!

I would agree, since I don't want to see another Afghanistan happen (the first one, where we abandoned Afghanistan after they kicked the Soviets out thus letting the Taliban grab power). I am also very hesitant to let Iraq and Iran team up. Unfortunately, things in Iraq aren't just chugging along crappily, it's getting worse, which means "stay the course" may not actually be on the menu for very long.

AWWWWW, Why can't they report the good news in Iraq instead of what drunk celebrity said what, drove what or did what/who?

And why do they waste weeks on end going on about 10 year old murder cases instead of reporting that there wasn't a roadside/suicide bombing at 3:00 PM on Tuesday?

Sarcasm aside prepare for liberal bashing.

Saboteur, the reports from Iraq are no different than those in the United States. BAD NEWS sells--good news does not. The first thing I hear in my local news is whether someone was killed last night in my area, or if there was a terrible car accident that has caused the roads to close, or if there was a drive by shooting in the District. Why don't you become a report and report the good news?

On a separate note? What happened to the "Plan for Victory" that the Bush Administration chanted last December? What is the plan? Oh that's right--STAY THE COURSE. Now that is what I call a Plan for Victory. NOT.

There is really only one thing to say on this Issue:

Either we Change the Plan....or we Fail.

It's really that simple.
