"The Trump administration is evaluating plans that would establish a “Domestic Civil Disturbance Quick Reaction Force” composed of hundreds of National Guard troops tasked with rapidly deploying into American cities facing protests or other unrest, according to internal Pentagon documents reviewed by The Washington Post. The plan calls for 600 troops to be on standby at all times so they can deploy in as little as one hour, the documents say. They would be split into two groups of 300 and stationed at military bases in Alabama and Arizona, with purview of regions east and west of the Mississippi River, respectively. ...The proposal, which has not been previously reported, represents another potential expansion of President Donald Trump’s willingness to employ the armed forces on American soil. It relies on a section of U.S. Code that allows the commander in chief to circumvent limitations on the military’s use within the United States.

Some legal scholars expressed apprehension about the proposal. The Trump administration is relying on a shaky legal theory that the president can act broadly to protect federal property and functions said Joseph Nunn, an attorney at the Brennan Center for Justice who specializes in legal issues germane to the U.S. military’s domestic activities. “You don’t want to normalize routine military participation in law enforcement,” he said. “You don’t want to normalize routine domestic deployment.”

The proposal represents a major departure in how the National Guard traditionally has been used, said Lindsay P. Cohn, an associate professor of national security affairs at the U.S. Naval War College. While it is not unusual for National Guard units to be deployed for domestic emergencies within their states, including for civil disturbances, this “is really strange because essentially nothing is happening,” she said. “Crime is going down. We don’t have major protests or civil disturbances. There is no significant resistance from states” to federal immigration policies, she said. “There is very little evidence anything big is likely to happen soon,” said Cohn, who stressed she was speaking in her personal capacity and not reflecting her employer’s views. Moreover, Cohn said, the proposal risks diverting National Guard resources that may be needed to respond to natural disasters or other emergencies."

This doesn't seem necessary. I know Trump likes to impliment policies that drive us apart, and sending trooos to DC us serving that purpose, but that's just part of the authoritarian's playbook. As is siccing troops on the people.

Republicans are afraid.

Republicans are afraid.

This is prep for when he moves to seize power and kill the last vestiges of republic.

It'll look like this: increasingly provocative major moves at an increasing pace, done with the hope of triggering massive widespread protests about the country. Then use deployment of this whatever it is to further ramp up the offense to the 'republic'. And then, finally, declare martial law.

I no longer thing I'm simply a pessimist. If we have midterms in 2026, they won't be explicitly rigged in terms of votes being changed. But they seem to want to gerrymander it every which way. They've already thoroughly infested the election systems in red and purple states to the extent they can. They'll be trying to throw every last vote out they can't. Etc.

But by 2028? There very well may not be a 2028 election, and it's not clear what any one individual can do about it. Nor will using the internet to organize doing something about it be safe as any plan to seize power permanently gets closer. The NSA shit has been going on since Bush Jr. All it would really take to permanently crush any chance of overthrowing a dictatorial coup is to fully copy China's mass surveillance, adopt it's 'social status' rating system, etc.

Republicans are afraid.
Democrats are afraid, this will work.
I'm all for this as long as democrats running cities in America fail to make cities safe, to arrest, charge and incarcerate offenders for the crime they actually commit, and to stop reducing violent crimes to misdemeanors. City leaders and complicit judges who continue to allow juvenile crime to run wild without serious consequences, I'm all for taking charge and helping police do their jobs making the cities safe for our law abiding citizens.

Offenders need to know if they commit crimes they will meet with strong penalties and will serve their time. Recidivism has always been a problem but it's weak judges and poor city leadership causing this.

Its not even intended to work. It's a show, designed to unleash his Maga Pavlov dogs yapping about Dem cities.

And to seize more power, of course.

I hate to break it to you, but the Guard isn't there to be judges and juries.

It is breathtaking.

Breathtaking how every post you make is so divorced from reality.

Trump called out the National Guard on DC, because crime is rampant, at a time when crime in DC is at a 30 year low.

What’s clear and frightening is that Trump is trying to federalize the police in his quest to become a dictator. He wants a Gestapo that he can use to squash opposition and retain power.

One doesn’t build a $200 million ballroom for the WH if you’re planning on moving out in three years.

"There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people."

Loved that series. I still fantasize about the blond Cylon.

The Republicans and Trump supporters are salivating over the prospect of destroying the Republic and making Trump a dictator.

You are for a police state run by an all powerful president and an end to a constitutional republic.

Red potus abridging blue state’s rights and blue home rule is fascist martial law.

We are, sadly, going to be sorting this out the hard way. It should be remembered that the rules of the hard way are entirely foreign to most Americans, and that all the taking advantage of polite society and institutions gets much, much more difficult, and comes with a cataloged of diminishing returns.
