From the Washington Post --

On Jan. 5, Pence endured another berating by Trump. Costa and Woodward describe the scene: Pence telling Trump that experts flatly rejected the president’s plan, Trump shouting, “No, no, no!” in response. Trump telling Pence that if he failed to go ahead with the plan, Trump would no longer be his friend. Trump, furious, saying: “You’ve betrayed us. I made you. You were nothing. Your career is over if you do this.”

It was on this day — though it’s not clear when — that Pence’s chief of staff, Marc Short, alerted the Secret Service that he was worried about what would happen when Pence’s rejection of Trump’s demands became public. On Friday, the New York Times reported the conversation.

“Mr. Short did not know what form such a security risk might take, according to people familiar with the events. But after days of intensifying pressure from Mr. Trump on Mr. Pence to take the extraordinary step of intervening in the certification of the Electoral College count to forestall Mr. Trump’s defeat, Mr. Short seemed to have good reason for concern,” Maggie Haberman reported. “The vice president’s refusal to go along was exploding into an open and bitter breach between the two men at a time when the president was stoking the fury of his supporters who were streaming into Washington.”

It was also reported today that on Jan 6, while the insurrection was still in progress and the "Hang Mike Pence" chants were occurring, Trump made the comment that Pence "should be hung" or something to that effect.

These evil Nazi Repug ****s must never hold power at the Federal level again. It's over for this country if they do. Nov 2022 could very well be the most important election in the history of this country.

America faces a dilemma that its founding fathers never anticipated. What do you do when a large portion of a democracy democratically wants to overthrow its own democracy?

Any Trump supporters at this point are anti-American insurrectionists. I could give a pass to Trump supporters previously before 1/6 and the 2020 election as being just the opposition, but not anymore. Trump supporters at this point want America to dive into a dictatorship under their rule.

lock em up and get the AR15's and all of assault weapons off the street and off the retail market across the board.

There are those in the know that say Trump's actions meet the criteria for a treason charge. The problem is all this stuff is hearsay at this point. Unless the government gets at least two solid credible witnesses that can tell us what was in Trumps head, he won't get charged with anything more than interfering with an official proceeding of congress. Which to me, if followed up with an appropriate sentence, will do just fine.

Trumpsters can't reply to this thread. They have absolutely no defense for the Nazi fascist **** that they support. They're not ashamed, mind you, they just can't think of any bullshit to say right now.

It's incredible and surreal that were even having a conversation about the President of the U.S trying to kill the Vice President of the U.S. because the Vice President wouldn't support a fascist takeover of the government. It's like we now live in an alternate universe.

This country used to ridicule chaos and upheaval in other countries. Not anymore.

Indeed

The reason that I post "I miss WWII vets" a lot is because how crazy things have gotten with the white nationalists and the Evangelical Christians and their goals and the politicians they control.

Those vets had way more integrity and would be outraged if Americans were trying to kill a vice president.

They would be willing to do it democratically or non-democratically, as they demonstrated on Jan 6.

can you imagine Ronald Reagan doing stuff that put Bush 1 in danger??????????

Reagan would be forced out of the Republican Party if he was still alive today, no questions asked.

Just like the Republican Congressman in upstate NY near Buffalo who announced yesterday that he is not seeking re-election....because he had the AUDACITY to say that he now supports an assault weapons ban after what happened in Buffalo. Now the poor dude is receiving death threats for crossing the NRA and his Nazi Party.

amen ........

Trump threw another under the bus as he would all of those who have been arrested thus far

worshipping politicians is a dangerous pastime

Big Corporate, BIG Corporate Fundamentalists and BIG Corporate government not a great idea nothing limited about this trio

Not anymore. Now the RW looks up to dictators. Having CPAC in Hungary is over the top. Just makes no sense. This crap really worries me about the direction of America. The problem is most people see the inflation as a bigger problem than losing democracy. Inflation will subside. Democracy won't come back if we lose it.

You might be right, but I think Garland needs to be bold and be willing to go for broke on as many major charges as possible. This is not the time for caution. Garland should not be worried about being embarrassed or losing or being "too political". It's too late for such petty considerations, too much is at stake.

We have Trump on audio tape trying to pressure the GA Secretary of State to overturn Biden's victory. I mean, Christ. That's pretty damn compelling evidence. It will be an unspeakable travesty of justice if Trump gets away with all of this and it will also spell the death of this country. It will mean we now have a democracy that can no longer fight for its own survival. And maybe that is already true, I sure hope not.

I'm 100% with you. They are ALL traitors in my book. Any of them attempting to defend Jan 6 confirms to me that they are traitors. They all make me sick to my stomach.

It's not just the violence, it's the fact that 147 Republicans in Congress on Jan 6 were willing to overturn the election results and steal Biden's victory, with absolutely zero evidence of voter fraud. That's actually more disturbing to me than the violence and it's why the Republican Party simply can't be trusted to control either house of Congress EVER again.

Marc Short testified before the J6 committee. If he would return, he would be a very convincing witness for prime time tv public hearings.

The episode is one of many others where trump resorts to intimidation. This example of threatening Pence might be the most horrid.

The perfect phone call to Zelensky, no wonder trump was denied on the phone like that.

The PERFECT phone call to Raffensberger in GA.

We don't settle our differences or elections with violence or intimidation. The problem is that the trump keeps trying with the constant lies!

Yeah, just too much apathy. Outrage overload is also part of it, but that's also a bad sign for where we're at as a country.

And some people on here think I'm too mean to these Nazi Republican ****holes and that I'm overstating the threat to this country. I hope they're right.

But Republicans wanting to kill a Republican VP?

That's so far over the line I can't even think of what to post.

Marc Short would be performing an invaluable service to his country if he testifies publicly. I sure hope he does it. His testimony could very easily be the most damning of anyone's...except for Mike Pence, of course.

I just read in the Washington Post that Marc Short will be testifying in person as a witness during the prime time Jan 6 hearings. --

Michael Luttig — a conservative lawyer and former appeals court judge who advised Pence — is expected to appear as a witness, as are Pence’s former chief of staff Marc Short and the vice president’s former chief counsel, Greg Jacob, according to people familiar with the plans for the hearings.

Jacob and Short were in the room for a meeting on Jan. 4, 2021, among Trump, Pence and John Eastman, an attorney for Trump. In that session, Eastman made the case for Pence to unilaterally act during the counting of electoral college votes to halt Trump’s defeat, The Post has previously reported.

Jacob and Short were also with Pence, who had been presiding in the Senate, on Jan. 6.

It was a coup attempt, and i doubt that it will be a one-off if a similar situation arises.

Nothing “democratically” to it. Right wing nut jobs/liars have made numerous illegal attempts at overturning the ‘20 election, and continue working to turn America into a dystopian Christian Nationalist society.

"..After being appointed DHS deputy chief of staff, Taylor wrote The New York Times op-ed in 2018 under the pen-name "Anonymous" that was entitled, "I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration" that drew widespread attention for its criticism of Trump. In September 2019, he left the administration and went to work for Google. In November 2019, again under the pen name "Anonymous" he published a book entitled, A Warning.[1] In October 2020, he revealed that he was "Anonymous" while campaigning against Trump's reelection.[4][5]

In August 2020, while on a leave of absence from his work at Google, Taylor produced an advertisement for Republican Voters Against Trump, denouncing Trump and endorsing Joe Biden in the 2020 United States presidential election. He was the first former Trump administration official to endorse Biden.[6] He later co-founded the Renew America Movement, alongside former Republican governors, members of Congress, and cabinet officials, with the objective to break Trump's hold on the Republican Party.[7] In May 2022 he announced that he was leaving the party..."
