And begin the countdown to someone calling Pence a RINO, fake conservative, etc. There are Putin sympathizers within the Republican party, so this had to be done.

hell, this is a political lay up

Floundering in his attempts to wield political power while lacking a political office, Donald Trump looks increasingly like a stray orange hair to be flicked off the nation’s sleeve. His residual power, which he must use or lose, is to influence his party’s selection of candidates for state and federal offices. This is, however, perilous because he has the power of influence only if he is perceived to have it. That perception will dissipate if his interventions in Republican primaries continue to be unimpressive. ...

... Speaking of embarrassments: We are the sum of our choices, and Vladimir Putin has provoked some Trump poodles to make illuminating ones. Their limitless capacity for canine loyalty now encompasses the Kremlin war criminal. (The first count against Nazi defendants at Nuremberg: “Planning, preparation, initiation and waging of wars of aggression.”) For example, the vaudevillian-as-journalist Tucker Carlson, who never lapses into logic, speaks like an arrested-development adolescent: Putin has never called me a racist, so there.
and the coup de grâce:
... For Trump, the suppurating wound on American life, and for those who share his curdled venom, war is a hellacious distraction from their self-absorption. Fortunately, their ability to be major distractions is waning.

Good. I have always liked Mike Pence. The worst thing the man ever did was allow himself to be used as a Conservative Christian beard by an amoral sociopath who only respects the vicious exercise of power like Donald Trump in the first place.

I have very little respect for Mike Pence, for a variety of reasons. This one speech isn't going to change that. But I do at least recognize he's shown more courage and backbone than an embarrassingly high percentage of Republicans.

Pence has been hitting some softballs lobbed his way recently.

When asked why he didn't participate to overthrow American democracy he said that it was a fundamental right of the people to choose who governed them.

When confronted with Putin apologists while the guy is invading a democracy to try to destroy it he says he doesn't think folks in his party should have that position.

You'd think both positions would have been so unremarkable as to need no comment but this is the world we live in where they make the news.

Pence is right; there's no excuse to support Putin. It's anti-American.

That doesn't mean it's wrong to criticize US policy errors, missteps, and outright **** ups.

For example: there's no reason for the US to be importing anything from Russia. Not one drop of oil.

Well, what on earth does Pence have left. Trump made sure he was "ruined" on his way out. So, I think he's just taking a shot as the "dark" horse candidate for 24.

What he doesn't realize is it's most of his party that are assholes, not just a few. So, good luck Mike. Pray about it. lol

Why on earth do you think Pence did that? You can't tell me he didn't know what kind of a man Trump was. it was clear enough to me watching his performance in the primaries. All this did was call into question Pence's own Christian principles, his judgement, and highlight his cowardice and sycophancy. Taking this Vice Presidency killed his prospects of ever being seen as a leader of the party that could appeal to never trumpers

TDS along with woke, AGW and CRT need to give it a rest for a while until or unless WW3 is averted.

There is a bi-partisan push from congress for Biden to shut off Russian oil and gas. Give it a few more days. When the administration realizes that the American people are willing to take the hit, he will shut it down.

Biden is stuck between a rock and a hard place. People are blaming him for the high price of fuel. (Really has nothing to do with him). But that's the belief. We only buy 7% of our oil from Russia. When we cut it off, people will blame Biden for the next increase in fuel prices. However, it won't be that much.

damn biden and his rising gasoline prices
damn biden for importing russian petroleum, which keeps gasoline prices from further increasing
next, it will be damn biden for negotiating for more iranian oil as the nuclear deal is pieced back together

Pence and the rest of the GOP got into bed with that bloated toad. Happy to finally see some pushback but the stink doesn't wear off that easily, especially since plenty of Republican lickspittles continue to sniff Trump's shorts hoping to ride his coattails into new/better positions of power.

TDS run rampant - we've never seen the GOP so obsessed with/terrified of one man, particularly one so loathsome. I disagree with the WAPO op-ed - Trump's influence over the right is going nowhere.

You seem to be seeing ghosts where none exist.

I have to admit that it is too late for any Republican in this nation. They are serious traitors, in the hope of being contrarian, they ruined their image by supporting a Putin Puppet and Putin himself.

He’s turning on Trump?

Agreed. I'm very glad Pence is challenging the Trump cult and Russophiles in the GOP. Hopefully it gives more Republicans the courage to speak out and cry "enough is enough".

There are Putin sympathizers within the Republican party, so this had to be done.
It was only a month ago that Pence stated that Trump was wrong about his duty as VP to overturn the election result. Pence drew a line in the sand between him, (being the ole GOP), and the Trump Party. Well, he just poured concrete in that same line siding with those anti-Putin. Since DJT is Putin's pal boy scrambling to slither back into the oval office soon after the 2024 president election, Putin may have just earned credit for a growing divide forming in the Republican Party based on what a ruthless and unfit dictator that Putin is. What the awakening GOP will now need to understand are the DJT clones looking to pick up where DJT left off and go after them all as much as the Democrats are expected to.

We do business with Chinese whack jobs that persecute Uighurs. Thank Nixon, who reached out to the most hated and feared of communist countries. Why not try with Iran? Heck why not try with Cuba?

Somebody stopping Biden from doing what's right?

Why not try with Iran? Heck why not try with Cuba?

That's the double standard the left are so famous for.

What double standard by the left? It has been the right that opposed places like Nicaragua and supported (actually, set up) places like Guatemala, whose atrocities would put Fidel to shame. The left in this country, from JFK to Carter, criticized left a and right wing regimes. It was Reagan who funded and supported right wing dictators.
