Pelosi says COVID-19 aid can't wait until September: 'People will die' | TheHill

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Wednesday she hopes negotiations over a coronavirus relief package don't drag on into next month, warning that kind of delay means "people will die."

The talks between Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House chief of staff Mark Meadows collapsed last Friday after almost two weeks of near-daily meetings.

The stalemate has left both sides still pointing fingers.

Congress also faces an end-of-September deadline to avoid a government shutdown, raising the possibility that the discussions over how to provide Americans economic relief from the COVID-19 pandemic could become part of government funding negotiations. But Pelosi rejected the idea of waiting that long.

"I hope not, no. People will die," Pelosi told reporters on Capitol Hill when asked if she thinks Congress will wait until September to act on relief.

Looking on the bright side of life, fewer bodies will free up hospital beds for living COVID-19 patients. And they would not have voted for Trump anyway.

Pelosi is right. People right now are relying on Trump's fugazi's executive order which is just FALSE HOPE.

Then she, and Schumer, should get off their asses and work with the administration to create bills that address real needs instead of the Dems Loony Wish List. The Dems have played this game repeatedly and their base sucks it up.

thanks Trump voters. this entire mess is because of you.

She better get her negotiating ass in gear. Get the job done.

Tell me about West Wing renovations and a new FBI building during this critical time?!

LOL!!

Yeah, yeah...everything is someone else's fault.

Pelosi and her insistence outrageous spending has nothing to do with anything.

Right.

Next thing we know, you'll be blaming the ballooning deficit on Trump.

Regale us, where does the ‘blame’ lie?

Reminder: The House of Representatives already passed a bill. The Senate has not even voted on one.

So?

Does that negate the failed, half-assed attempts to negotiate a bill that both sides can agree upon?

McConnell ducks out of the negotiations entirely, and the administration's two key guys decide to say the President should release questionable if not ineffective memos and an EO instead of (probably) haggling over 100 billion dollars......

Yeah, it kinda does.

Sorry, but it's unfortunate for the country that the only person who has done their job is Pelosi. I actually didn't think this administration and McConnell would be dumb enough to think doing very little was a good idea--but here we are. I first gave credit to Mnuchin for being the first big player to say people needed direct payments this spring, and I still refer to that check as my Mnuchin check. I thought that Meadows would have been sidelined and Mnuchin would have been able to get this thing over and done with before the election chaos. But...

Pelosi can get a deal TODAY, saving lives. She doesn't care about lives. She cares about politics.

I would suggest that Pelosi and Schumer agree to short term Bill to get people by for a few months. Heck Congress has been using continuing resolutions for years to get pass budget impasses.

Congress is broken. Both Parties are to blame.

It's a matter of life or death, and time's short, but it has to be done exactly as we say!!!

They tried. The GOP showed up with bull**** and wouldn't budge.

Nope. This is all Trump and McConnell.

Why doesn't McConnell bring up the House bill for an up/down vote and negotiate from there? Not all of this falls onto the feet of Pelosi and the House ya know. Heck...where is the Senate even at during this?

We will disagree. Republicans and Democrats in Congress are to blame. Trump doesn't help.

All they had to do in the short run was renew the existing structure while they bickered.

Trump and McConnell weren't having that. Now they own the ongoing meltdown, which should become self-evident in about 7 more days.

Mitch had months to negotiate and he did nothing. The Senate Republicans are the failure. They are so far up Trumps ass the sun does not shine. They all need to be voted out.

I read somewhere it was Pelosi who did not want a short term bill.
Coronavirus Relief Bill: Pelosi rejects short-term extension | Daily Mail Online

"Nancy Pelosi stressed Thursday that Democrats will not agree to a temporary measure for unemployment insurance benefits as negotiations close on a second week of no progress toward reaching an agreement on another coronavirus stimulus package."

And yet, Nancy STILL wants to give away more than two Trillion dollars.

In any case, Nancy is trying to scare people over nothing. Nobody's going to die. Even if Nancy doesn't negotiate, Trump's EO's will keep people alive.

(Unless, of course, Nancy REALLY tries to **** Americans over by taking Trump to court.)

Some folks still haven't gotten their first covid checks. Such melodrama. Not having money to spend keeps the people out of the stores which keeps them less exposed to the virus. Gridlocks saves lives.
