While the Democratic House leader could have been simply showing unity by applauding Trump at various moments during the speech, Pelosi's liberal supporters have twisted it into praise for the California congresswoman. Washington Post style reporter Monica Hesse even penned a piece headlined, “The exquisite shade of Nancy Pelosi’s applause at the State of the Union.”

Here's a vision. An America that is the leader in international cooperation to deal with climate change, that respects international institutions, one that tries to make the workplace safer, one that raises the minimum wage to keep pace with inflation, that taxes corporate persons like it taxes real persons, and/or does not allow them to contribute to political campaigns, that doesn't allow Wall Street income to be taxed differently than that of a person who punches a clock, that tries to make abortion "safe, legal and rare" by supporting organizations working to that end, that abides by our treaty obligations and laws towards refugees and doesn't kidnap and (apparently) permanently separate kids from their parents, that has a president that does not insult or lie about Mexican migrants, legal or not, or spread false info on black on white crime, who reveals his tax information while campaigning and severs his relationship with his businesses while in office, who doesn't praise dictators and criticize democracies, and who respects the work of its intelligence agencies.

In short, the opposite of what the current administration stands for. That'll do for a start.

I didn't say they are enemies. They represent people "to be loved and won over," in the words of GOP Sen. Lowell Weiker of the Watergate hearings about democrats. No interest in dictatorship. What gave you that idea? The GOP is currently an obstacle to what I would like to see the government do democratically, much as the democrats naturally be would be seen as obstacles to a republican agenda.
