If anything... the WNBA players OWE money. They should be paying back the NBA and the Owners.

That is up from the 20 million that they used to lose a year, a few years ago.
 
The right talks about women's sports incessantly online. Are you telling me that they aren't even watching enough to make it profitable?
 
While I think it ridiculously unfair that a starting player for the WNBA earns approximately $80k per year compared to the $1.15 million in the NBA, I understand that the WNBA needs to start bringing in more $$ if they want to pay their players what they are worth.

I just can't believe that they aren't even watching something that they care enough about to bore us all to death with every day. Even international play pretend Republicans seem to be obsessed with women's sports.
 
Fairness has nothing to do with it. It's a business. The league is losing money every year. The players can demand more money, that's their right, but if they drive the league out of business nobody gets paid.

But it isn't unfair. Not at all. Players in the Minor Leagues don't make as much either.
 
The only reason I watch any WNBA is because of Caitlin Clarke. She is a really good player.
Most of the league just sucks. Their skills are horrible.

What exactly are you having trouble believing? If someone supports investigating the killer of Antonio Dennard, it means they have to buy all the Packers season tickets, too?
 
Arsenal signed an LFC women's player for a record breaking million.

LFC men's has spent nearly 300x that on six dudes.

The men's game has more eyeballs across all sports, except maybe for the US women's national footie team.

Some of that has to do with when the sports started. Some of that has to do with patriarchal bullshit. A lot of it is taste.

I don't really watch football. That's part of why I don't start five hundred threads about it a day.
 

It is not so cut and dry. The NBA is not running a charity with the WNBA. It is an investment.

The players have every right to ask for more, the owners have every right to refuse.

I think they’re probably paid about what they are worth.

It’s the male athletes that make insane amounts of money because Americans are able to spend a lot of money to attend games and buy league merchandise, etc.

Then there are all the endorsements, etc.

These people play basketball, they don’t really have an incredibly valuable life skill.

I don’t tend to be incredibly impressed with athletes unless they do something for communities, etc with the ridiculous amounts of money they earn for playing sports. Congratulations to them - but I think we focus way too much energy on celebrity personas

I know many top players in many sports, men and women.

It's going to continue to bleed money. Women could watch it and make sure it is profitable. They don't and it isn't.

Well they talk incessantly about how the left wants to put men into the WNBA.


It's more than fair. When you talk about the NBA they have a revenue sharing agreement. They get a percentage of all league revenues and when the league makes less, they make less too.

It's called sharing the risk and reward. If the WNBA did this then as noted, the players would be writing checks back to the league.
 
The modeling industry is the same but in reverse: women earn more than men because they bring in more revenue.
 

So you would support WNBA players in getting the same revenue sharing agreement as NBA players?

Now look up what they are hoping to negotiate. They have a BRI agreement already, nothing close to what NBA players receive though.
