Paul is probably right. Knowing some of those we armed and helped for either short term gain or just to spit an known enemy at the time, arming ISIS probably happened and maybe is continuing. We wanted Assad gone, most likely this arming was not to the ISIS directly, but indirectly.
We also have the thread on who all the Rebels that were involved and others caught up into the conflict. From the beginning.
In the thread we have here.....In Honor of the Syrian Rebels.
Islamist Rebels Create Dilemma on Syria Policy
In Syria’s largest city, Aleppo, rebels aligned with Al Qaeda control the power plant, run the bakeries and head a court that applies Islamic law. Elsewhere, they have seized government oil fields, put employees back to work and now profit from the crude they produce.
Across Syria, rebel-held areas are dotted with Islamic courts staffed by lawyers and clerics, and by fighting brigades led by extremists. Even the Supreme Military Council, the umbrella rebel organization whose formation the West had hoped would sideline radical groups, is stocked with commanders who want to infuse Islamic law into a future Syrian government.
Nowhere in rebel-controlled Syria is there a secular fighting force to speak of.....snip~

Sharia law originated and is exported by Saudi Arabia. Bashar Assad for example is fighting against this.Is Sharia Law not a widespread religious teaching? In other words, why do some groups have it, and others don't?

Yeah Pero.....I even had a thread on when the Rebels were giving the weapons to Al Nusra or ISIL. Its up in the ME thread.
How indirectly they was shown to be.
Perhaps not that indirectly that one should be surprise if our arms ended up with ISIS, AN or other AQ rebels fighting Assad. We give the arms to Turkey for them to distribute in Syria. We really have no control whom they give them to.

yes these rebels who are essentially al Qaeda are Directly funded by Saudi Arabia. No funding from Saudi Arabia equals no existence of al Qaeda or ISIS.So it may be that the rebels want Sharia in Syria? So why does Obama want to help fund and train the rebels then - would he want his wife and daughters subject to that? I can almost guarantee Michelle wouldn't agree - not the way she likes to wear designer fashions, which is her right! Assad apparently knows the women of his country wouldn't either. What is Obama thinking?
Greetings, 24107. :2wave:

Greetings and fair tidings Polgara! :2wave:
There are a number of different Muslim sects (Sunni and Shiite conflicting in Iraq with the Kurds thrown in), each having slightly different beliefs and value systems.
Of these, seems that Wahhabi movement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is the most conservative, with strong support for Sharia law. OBL was a Wahhabi from Saudi Arabia, for example.
Yeah, I can't remember if I had it up in the Concerning Syria Thread or if it was a Separate on its own. But I remember the story. Rebel Commanders said they would give them to the al Nusra or likes since they were the tougher fighters and leading the battles.
These might interest you and can give you some insight as to why and what has been going on.

Heya 24. :2wave: Well really you would also have to take out Qatar and their backing of the MB.
One thing is for certain Lady P......Terrorists are spreading, and under BO. Plus now we have to worry about all these Americans that went to fight for these so called Rebels/Terrorists.
Jihadis.....and their version of Islamic law.
Also there is the Sunni Doctrine of Islam and the Shia Doctrine.
That's true my friend, but Qatar is essentially the little brother of Saudi Arabia. So many times I don't even bother to mention them. Also Bahrain is propped up by Saudi Arabia which is cracking the whip on the Shia majority there. But no calls for liberation or fighting terrorism there. I wonder why?Heya 24. :2wave: Well really you would also have to take out Qatar and their backing of the MB.
I hope Congress says NO to the money request! We're going to get blamed for whatever happens, so why would we help radical rebels overthrow Assad, who is apparently fairly well liked by his people? I just don't understand Obama's thinking! We need to stay out of this religious fight!

PressTV - US arming Syria militants with advanced weapons: Report
I am of course assuming that a weapon that goes to ANY Syrian militant is probably going to ISIS.
Would those weapons include the ones Sen. McCain personally brought with him when he wanted to bomb Syria?
As you know, the GOP has two wings in any foreign affair, sometimes more--the NEOs and ISOs.
Paul continues to position himself INSIDE the GOP for his Presidential run.
If he ever finds a billionaire sugar-daddy, he'll break away and form a 3rd party top-down .

Do you think this will continue?
So why is Obama asking Congress for money to help the rebels send Syria back to the stone age? Assad is a college trained doctor and wants his country to move forward, not backwards! And Syria is helping Maliki in his fight with rebels in Iraq by sending aircraft. This doesn't make sense - what is Obama thinking?
Good evening to you, Erik. :2wave:
