Paul Ryan was convinced Donald Trump had narcissistic personality disorder

Paul Ryan knew that he had a problem. Donald Trump had been elected president and now Ryan, as the Republican Speaker of the House, had to find ways to work with him -- despite the two men's totally opposite approaches to life and politics. What he did -- as documented in the new book "Peril" by authors Bob Woodward and Robert Costa -- is both remarkable and revealing. Here's the passage:

Ryan began, on his own, to research how to deal with someone who is amoral and transactional. The exercise initially was difficult. Ryan liked to call himself a 'policy guy' but his wonkiness did not extend from the realm of Social Security and Medicare into psychiatry. "Then a wealthy new York doctor and Republican donor called Ryan and said 'You need to understand what narcissistic personality disorder is.' "

The doctor sent Ryan a memo on "how to best deal with a person with anti-social personality disorder" and a variety of links to medical journals on the disorder. Ryan, Woodward and Costa note, "studied them for weeks, convinced that Trump had the personality disorder." A spokesperson for Ryan didn't respond to a request for comment. Ryan eventually decided that dealing with Trump was simply not worth it -- shocking the political world by announcing his retirement in early 2018.

Narcissistic personality disorder, and a sociopath, and an habitual liar.

Interesting, as Ryan seemed like a sociopath also, but not a narcissist.

Many people where convinced Hillary Clinton was on deaths door, and Biden has dementia. What people not an expert, and who have not tested the person think is entirely irrelevant to reality. I do not know nor care what health or personality issues Trump has. He is irrelevant now.

There's a big difference between the right's delusions about Democrats, and people's observations of trump. That's a big false equivalency.

The problem is, he's still super dangerous.

He is irrelevant now.
Hardly, as will be evident again on Saturday, and is evident by the constant conspiracy theories about a stolen election.

In what way is Trump not connected with or important to politics and governance and why? Or, you tell us in what context and why Trump is irrelevant?

Jury’s out on this, imo…

Irrelevant, apart from the fact that tens of millions of people will vote in various elections based on his wishes, thus giving him power over most of the local/state/national GOP, and so on.

He's only irrelevant once the number of people obeying him is.

narcissistic personality disorder is not just a Trump thing, consider his followers.

60,000 mental health professionals from around the country agree:

“We, the undersigned mental health professionals, believe in our professional judgment that Donald Trump manifests a serious mental illness that renders him psychologically incapable of competently discharging the duties of President of the United States. And we respectfully request he be removed from office, according to article 4 of the 25th amendment to the Constitution, which states that the president will be replaced if he is ‘unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.’”
-Petition signed by over 60,000 mental health professionals in 2017

“He’s so classic ( for narcissistic personality disorder-NPD) that I’m archiving video clips of him to use in workshops because there’s no better example of his characteristics. Otherwise, I would have had to hire actors and write vignettes. He’s like a dream come true.”
- Clinical psychologist George Simon, psychologist specializing in abusive and manipulative behavior
