Giuliani's campaign is picking up steam, and McCain's is fading, which is a nightmare scenario for Conservative Republicans. Should he beat Hillary, who is the front runner for the Democrats, you will have a bona fide Liberal president. It may happen too. More Democrats are prepared to vote for him than Hillary, and Giuliani may even end up getting more Liberal votes than the Democratic candidate. Republican? In name only. Gay marriage? Gun control? Abortion? More welfare? More government control over peoples' lives? Giuliani supports all of it. But it's a smart move for the GOP, whose Conservative base is leaving the party in droves.
Want to know what this reminds me of? The California Governor's race a few years ago. Gray Davis was toast, and the GOP could have won with anybody. Who did they pick to run? McClintock, the only real Conservative in the race? Nope. They picked the man who would become one of the most Liberal governors in the history of California.
So the next time you hear a Republican talk about how Conservatism is better than Liberalism, just remind him of the candidates and ideologies Republicans are pulling for lately. Its all just talk from them, and always has been since Reagan left office.
