Firstly - the Great Neck Synagogue in New York pulled her appearance in July; then the Chabad Synagogue in Toronto pulled her from a recent planned talk. This follows from her being banned from entering the UK to speak at an anti-muslim rally.

Two very different views of the aftermath here.

The latest politically correct censorship keeps Geller out of the Chabad Thornhill synagogue in suburban Toronto, where she was due to speak next Monday.Geller has campaigned against the Islamization of America, and she has been behind the anti-jihad signs that were posted in the New York’s subway system.

The salt in the wound inflicted by the Toronto police ban is that it was instituted by none other than the hate crimes unit of the police. Preaching against hate is grounds for a hate crime in the New Age New Speak.

Never invite those who promote hatred of other religious and ethnic groups in the guise of advancing Jewish interests and values.

Pamela Geller has no place in an American synagogue. She is a bigot and purveyor of hate.
Thoughts?

This is not an attempt to pretend "free speech is dead in the USA" or "free speech is dead in Canada" - I'm interested in a variety of viewpoints and experiences.

We respect opinions and differing cultures in this country. The strong exception to this rule are those intolerant of other opinions and cultures. Your opinion does not count if you seek to purge or rid of another.

We do not need hateful people like her here, we can do without, and rightfully so. The government can prevent anyone from entering the country, it is our soil, not hers. She has no right to bitch. We have clauses and provisions in our constitution dealing with things like this for a reason.

While I support the Synagogues rejecting her, I would disagree with the government barring her entry to the country as a whole. Freedom of speech should be free from persecution by the government, but private organizations have no obligation to give a platform to hateful jerks like Geller.

I think it's a mistake to conflate Spencer and Geller.
Spencer is a scholar and basically has Islam and Islamism right.
Geller is a wack job who is Counterproductive to her causes.

She is not a Canadian citizen, she has none of our rights prescribed to her. We do not want hateful people coming here. I feel the government has every right barring hateful people from our country. We do not tolerate those sorts of people here.

Its a bad precedent to set. Pablo Neruda was barred from the U.K. because of his socialist politics using the same kind of logic.

No it really isn't, if people felt it was unjust they would protest it but no one gives a damn about her. We don't want those kind of people in our country we do not tolerate Islamopohia here.

The phrase "we don't want their kind here" has been used to justify all sorts of nasty discrimination. Accepting persecution for being unpopular is a very dangerous road to take. I can't stand the woman personally, but that isn't enough to justify state sanction.

Is that fruitcake still around? I thought she got sent to the Supermax for endangering what's left of the collective American IQ?

Should we allow discrimination to enter our country?

Its better than making discrimination government policy. A person actions must cross the line from distasteful to measurably harmful to justify state sanction.

Those that make broad statements should back them up with facts. Those accusing her of the above, or of hate here in another post should at least provide examples or back off. Throwing out accusations is easy, defending them requires more than a couple of sentences.

I'd like to hear Geller speak or any other with a view. I can make up my own mind if facts are fudged, I don't need a bunch of free speech deniers telling me who to let speak or where.

I've always said that every sovereign nation has the right to decide who will be allowed into the country, and who will not. Canada has every right to make that choice, just as the UK did.

Of course a country has the right to deny entry. I don't think Geller was denied entry.
Entry should be denied for a reason though, not simply arbitrarily so.

Free speech is paramount to a free country.
