For those of you from or familiar with the laws in other countries, can you explain how paid maternity leave works in that respective country? I'm particularly interested in who is responsible for paying, how much of the original income is covered, and if there are any specific requirements a mother must meet to be eligible.

Whatever the government of other countries don't mind paying out of others taxes.

The laws of Ukraine and Belarus guarantee maternity leave at full pay for 126 days (18 weeks). Maternity leave can be extended if there are other children already in the household. Mothers can obtain partial pay for additional leave until the newborn reaches the age of three, or partial pay for additional leave of up to six years if the newborn is disabled. The maternity leave salaries are paid by the government and derived from nationwide paycheck social-insurance deductions.
