I want to call out obesity, an epidemic in this country. Body positivity is killing people. It's not okay to be 100 pounds overweight and say you are beautiful and healthy. That's completely absurd.

Each generation is getting fatter and fatter. It's getting out of control. What Covid-19 showed is that being overweight is the real threat. Obesity tripled the risk of hospitalization with a COVID infection.

Ozempic and Wegovy are miracle drug treatments that work. It should be covered by insurance for all overweight people.

How Ozempic works:
  1. GLP-1 Receptor Agonism: Ozempic mimics the action of a hormone called GLP-1, which is naturally produced by the intestines in response to food intake. GLP-1 helps regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and reducing glucagon secretion, a hormone that raises blood sugar levels.
  2. Glucose-Dependent Mechanism: Ozempic works in a glucose-dependent manner, meaning it only increases insulin secretion and reduces glucagon secretion when blood sugar levels are high, such as after a meal. This helps prevent hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) as Ozempic does not overly stimulate insulin release when blood sugar levels are normal.
  3. Slows Gastric Emptying: Ozempic also slows down the rate at which the stomach empties, which helps reduce the amount of glucose absorbed from the gut into the bloodstream after a meal. This further helps lower postprandial (after-meal) blood sugar levels.
  4. Weight Loss Effects: Ozempic has been shown to promote weight loss. It helps decrease appetite and increase feelings of fullness, which may contribute to its overall effectiveness in managing type 2 diabetes.

A doctor asking a person to change their behavior to lose weight (diet and exercise) has proven to be a struggle. Ozempic and Wegovy change your body chemistry, which has proven to work.

We are in a medical revolution. How long can doctors recommend that their patients “diet and exercise” knowing that obesity is a chronic disease? Ozempic and Wegovy actually treat the condition of obesity without blaming the individual.

I don't agree with the use of "drugs" to deal with obesity. We are an overly medicated society as it is, with drugs for everything, even made up ills like "restless leg syndrome."

What people REALLY need is to take some personal responsibility for themselves, as well as their actions.

The cure for obesity? Eat right (proper Diet) and Exercise.

Problem is we've been trained to eat foods that are over-processed, full of chemical additives, and heavily dosed with sugars to create a craving to eat more.

Then we have all this "body positivity" nonsense to boot. IMO that crap needs to be booted out of the social consciousness.

There are a rare few people whose weight is an issue because of their own body chemistry, but those are the exception not the rule.

The rest are just grazing their way to ill-health.

BTW, we have this whole Food and Drug Administration thing in the USA. Why aren't they doing the job they exist for and properly regulate the crap the food and drug industries keep selling us?

Eat better and move more. Not every meal has to involve fried food. Why is that simple principle out of reach?
It's a losing proposition, trying to apply a drug solution to a simple problem.

Isn't telling people to eat better and move more non-helpful when over 40% of the US population is obese?

That's like telling an unemployed person to get a job.

A gym membership is way cheaper and less painful than giving yourself a shot every week.

A lot of these "go to the gym" and "eat healthy" mantras are things most people know but will never actually practice.

That's not true. A shot hurts for like 5 seconds. Based on some people I have seen, asking them to run a mile would cause them to puke or fall from exhaustion.

Yeah, but a drug for weight loss is just permission to get dinner at the drive through 7 days a week instead of 4.
I admit, it's easy to say when you live an hour away from the nearest fast food but somehow the solution is to teach kids that good grub can come out of the kitchen instead of through the driver side window.
When we go to town every drive-through is lined up but the Subway has two teenagers behind the counter doing stuff on their phones. I don't know if making greasy gut-bombs even easier is the solution.
