Outrage in Stanford Rape Case Over Light Sentence for Attacker and Statement [W:377]

Re: Outrage in Stanford Rape Case Over Light Sentence for Attacker and Statement by H

Never stated it had anything to do with the so called "affluenza" defense.
And that does not hold the Judge to adhering to it. This was a BS sentence.
3 felony charges, rape and receives 6 months.

Then the Judge has the audacity, oh he was intoxicated at the time he was raping her for assigning a lesser sentence.

You have to understand something. There's a movement gaining traction in America that opposes punishing criminals. I'm afraid there's going to be more and more lightweight sentences just like this one.

Re: Outrage in Stanford Rape Case Over Light Sentence for Attacker and Statement by H

Two students riding their bikes spotted him on top of her. She wasn't moving. He ran, they chased and caught him for the police. (They're hero's) The victim had no memory of the rape. Those are the facts. He was convicted of three felony counts and must register as a sex offender. This judge stated that a harsher penalty would have a "severe impact" on the aspiring athlete. What about the severe impact on the victim? Rape isn't about alcohol. It's about choices, to rape or not.

You mean they shouldn't be charged with assault?

Re: Outrage in Stanford Rape Case Over Light Sentence for Attacker and Statement by H

The Judge followed the Probation Department's Recommendation.

The Judge followed the Probation Department's Recommendation.

This has absolutely nothing to do with "affluenza".

They were both inebriated.
Her consenting doesn't prohibit her from passing out while in the act, nor does his drunken stupor necessitate that he notice.
"If" that is what happened it shouldn't be considered rape.

Well, since you were there and saw the whole thing, I'm surprised the defense didn't call you as a witness. Obviously you could have provided the information that apparently was denied to the jury.

The defense needed to call Excon as a witness. He has the entire story and apparently saw the whole thing. Just ask him.

That's really ****ing amusing.

Also facts.
He ran because they were attackers.
Nothing they say prevents her from passing out during the act.
If she wasn't really being raped they are not heroes.

And this Judge really doesn't understand the impact this conviction will have on the person.
The life he knew and aspired to, is effectively over. Even with this six months sentence.

Still, it was the Prole Departments Recommendation.
They recommended that six months for a reason, and they have far more information about this case than either of us do.

If anything it should tell you that you do not have enough information to make any judgements about this case.

The man was tried and found guilty in a court of law.

Your attempt to downplay his crime and his conviction is utterly disgusting.

3 charges - 6 months jail- 3 years probation -thoughts are?

Another sickening example of rich, white spoiled privileged rich kids pissing on others and pretending they were dispensing valuable life saving liquids and we should all be thankful.

I dearly hope his face and name are never forgotten as he goes through life and is constantly reminded of what he did.

You have said absolutely nothing of import. Try again.

Apparently you also don't get it.
His crime, if he actually committed a crime, is "Officially" downplayed by the fact of his sentence being so lenient.

There is a reason it is so lenient, can you establish why?

They're attackers?? When one is caught raping an unconscious woman, they run. These kids are her hero's. You're questioning if she was being raped or not? I've no words for that. The life "he aspired to is over" What about the rape victims life? What is her quality of life going to be?

Oh but I did. Go back and read again. Defending or downplaying this convicted criminal is stomach turning and you should be ashamed of yourself.

My feelings exactly. It's that sick mentality where it's all good as long as the "man wants it" or "she asked for it because she was wearing a skirt" Pathetic.

On the contrary - you're the expert here. Since you were an eye witness and have all the facts I think everybody - including the jury, the Prosecutor, and the victim should all bow to your superior knowledge on what happened. Or were you just engaging in bizarre 'defend the rapist' drivel?

Because the judge was concerned for his "future athletic career" That's disgusting.

Again, you are ignoring the obvious truth here. Excon was there - he knows exactly what happened. Just read his posts and you'll see. Why the defense didn't call him as a witness defies logic!:lamo

He was found guilty of rape, what do you not understand? He should be receiving a sentence of a rapist.

Re: Outrage in Stanford Rape Case Over Light Sentence for Attacker and Statement by H

Well, a citizen can't take the law into his own hands. I thought you would support that.

What did you not understand about what was said?
What did you not understand about the sentence being what was recommended by the agency which recommends sentences? That it can be assured to be appropriate given the facts as they know them.

He got the sentence given and it is a life long one.

Re: Outrage in Stanford Rape Case Over Light Sentence for Attacker and Statement by H

And yet the most extreme leftists say there's no need for mandatory minimum sentencing, takes too much power from the judges they say.
In some cases mandatory minimum sentencing is a bad thing.

The way to fix this is to have better judges, not implement mandatory minimum sentences.

Can you- he was found guilty os sexual assault- from what I recall, 3 felonies.
You appear to be blaming the victim??

Re: Outrage in Stanford Rape Case Over Light Sentence for Attacker and Statement by H

The Judge followed the Probation Department's Recommendation.....

that's actually part of the problem, the rapist lied to the probation officer and never expressed remorse Generally that's a factor in reducing a sentence of a convicted rapist.

In the prosecution's sentencing memo, however, deputy district attorney Alaleh Kianerci urged the judge to disregard the probation report in this case, which she reveals recommends up to six months in county jail. In her memo, she pointed out that Turner lied to probation officials about his history, saying he was an inexperienced drinker from a small town in Ohio, when text messages from his phone dating back to high school show he frequently used alcohol and drugs including marijuana and LSD. Kianerci also argued that the probation officer misinterpreted the victim's empathy for Turner as support for a light sentence.

The prosecution memo also contends that Turner never acknowledged that he sexually assaulted the victim and has shown no true remorse. She cites an incident that wasn't raised during his trial, in which Turner was accused of aggressively touching a woman who was dancing at a party at the same frat house the weekend before. Kianerci contended that along with his behavior toward the victim and her sister, that incident shows he has a pattern of preying on women.

Conservatives appreciate your blind obedience but you really have no idea how disgusting the guy is. The debris in the woman's hair show she was dragged behind the dumpster and he ran away when somebody saw him.

They were both inebriated.
Her consenting doesn't prohibit her from passing out while in the act, nor does his drunken stupor necessitate that he notice.
"If" that is what happened it shouldn't be considered rape.

For you to believe she consented you have to come up with an explanation of why she's lying about not consenting, why she had to be dragged behind the dumpster and why he ran away when seen. again conservatives appreciate your blind obedience

Re: Outrage in Stanford Rape Case Over Light Sentence for Attacker and Statement by H

Uhh....the story I heard was she was completely unconscious, two other guys discovered the rape while it was in progress, chased down the accused and held him until the police arrived. Since then multiple juries (I've heard three juries so far) have all found the accused guilty.

mmmm, I just had a thought, if he had raped the woman in Florida could he have shot the grad students who came to her aid?

If she was coming out of a Trump rally would some here blame Trump for the assault someone else committed. If only he had drug her into a bathroom he chose identify with then we would have a good debate.

And since he lied to produce the material in that report which impacted his sentence - is there not some legal recourse to bust this asshole down to his proper size?
