Professor charged with soliciting '''student''' — with an Arby'''s card

Barry Cole Poyner, a communications professor, is charged with using Grindr to solicit sex from an 18-year-old who was actually an undercover cop.

A church leader and university professor in northeastern Missouri has been charged with patronizing prostitution after allegedly trying to solicit an 18-year-old on Grindr with offers of an Arby’s gift card and gas money.

The investigation began after Truman State University police received a tip that Barry Poyner had been “harassing” male students and “offering to pay for items for sexual favors,” according to court documents. Poyner, 57, was allegedly contacting the students on the popular gay dating app Grindr.

Barry Cole Poyner, an Elder at anti-LGBTQ Kirksville Church of Christ in Missouri and a professor at Truman State University. Elder at Church That Condemns Homosexuality Arrested for Soliciting Sex from Male College Students on Grindr - Towleroad Gay News The hypocrisy of his church condemning homosexuality makes this a real knee slapper.

Some of this stuff seems almost too funny to be real. A 57-year-old church elder soliciting homosexual contact on the internet? Hypocrite.

We've seen this pattern before, which is why I'm always skeptical of the vehemently anti-LBGTQ crowd.

True Christian values. Not what they pay lip service to, but what they actually support.

Wait, so if a man offers to buy a woman dinner in the hopes that she'll sleep with him, is that now soliciting prostitution?

Nope

Paying for dinner in the hope of getting sex later is not paying for sex directly.

I will take a guess and there are text messages stating he would give them the gift cards for sexual acts directly rather than going out on a "date"

I doubt if Trump offers to buy dinner. It's probably just "How much do I have to pay?" and "It's very small little mushroom, can I get a 50% discount?"

So similar to this case, and if it's OK for the POTUS, why wouldn't it be OK for a citizen?

I see, so the wise folks soliciting prostitutes offer to pay for their dinner for a "date".

I think it's pretty clear what he pays lip service to.

That's why he's in trouble.

1. Deepest sympathies to Professor Poyner on his being entrapped by a cop.

a. I wish the cops would entrap violent street thugs instead.

b. A big orchid to the new district attorney in San Francisco who promises to stop prosecuting "solicitation" arrests.

2. An onion to Professor Poyner for supposedly soliciting his students. That is a no no.

3. Just because he belongs to an openly anti-gay church does not mean that he believes in that particular tenant of his church. Many churchgoers disagree with some of their church's ideas.

Just wanted to add that he is a leader at the church.

Are you also "skeptical of the gay crowd" for soliciting sex with minors? Just curious how far you take your nonsensical bigotry.

They are all hypocrites.

I the exact Bible verse, but when one guy criticizes another for having a splinter in his eye, the return comment was something like 'Hypocrite, first cast out from thine own eye the beam.'

Or their time and not any services provided which are consensual and at the discretion of both

if you are talking about this story, the person said he was 18, even though he was a cop, so no minor was involved.

I doubt Trump pays for sex with so many women freely offering it.

Anyone who pretends to be a Christian repulsed by gay romance always flies on my radar as someone in the closet.

While I am sure you are looking to be Suck It Conservatives about this, it really should be problematic for progressives that the police are using this dating app to target gays. When I was a kid, the man up the road from us got swept up in one of these gay round ups from a cruising spot that netted a lot of people, some of them local officials. Even in my ubber conservative neighborhood with 4 churches in it, people were really mad that the police had done this. There was a big push back and the Judge basically just threw all the cases out of Court as a message to the police to stop targeting gays.

If it was a direct trade sex for dinner, then yes. But you your post says "hopes" so payment is not expected.
