Don't forget popular culture throughout human history has come up with a million excuses to centralize govt in Nazi or Communist hands! Our Founders had a favorite drinking game. Each would stand up pretending to be a leader from the past offering his "rationale" for the urgent need to centralize power. Whoever got the biggest laugh won the game.

The rest is history. They wrote the Constitution to make all "rationales" for central govt illegal and thus created the greatest country in human history by far based on individual liberty. Do you understand?

What a dumb thread.

well I think we can learn a lot from the personal but very political games our Founders played. They help us understand the true origins of the ideas that made our country the greatest in human history by far. In this case they tried to impersonate many of the greatest and deadliest liberals in human history!!

You have to remember back then water could be dangerous, especially downstream from any town. I don't care if they played games, the Consitution is what matters.

So the liberal progressives understand, those ends justified the means. Although it really doesn't work like that if you respect individual rights, like they did.

you realize that liberal and conservative doesn't mean much through the eons of time. You either have those who want control over others or you want freedom. Those "liberals" were on the side of freedom. Right now American "liberals" are statist parasitic reactionaries in many cases and want less freedom and more control. The liberals of 1776 were against MORE government, MORE collectivization and less individual freedom.

A complete list of every president’s favorite drink | New York Post

George Washington
Washington sold whiskey (made near Mount Vernon), but he probably rarely, if ever, drank it. The formula was about 60% rye, 3% corn and a very meager amount of malted barley. As for his favorite drink — he loved dark porter (laced with molasses) that was made in Philadelphia.

John Adams
Adams loved alcohol, starting almost every morning with a hard cider. Then porter beer, rum and copious amounts of Madeira.

Thomas Jefferson
Jefferson’s huge wine purchases helped bring him to the brink of financial ruin.

James Madison
Champagne may have been among his favorites, but he once advised guests that it “was the most delightful wine when drank in moderation, but that more than a few glasses always produced a headache the next day.”

James Monroe
A small scandal occurred during Monroe’s stint in the Executive Mansion when 1,200 bottles of Burgundy and Champagne from France were charged to an account that Congress had earmarked for furniture.

John Quincy Adams
There are some claims that JQA once conducted a blind taste test of 14 different kinds of Madeira and correctly identified 11 of them.

Andrew Jackson
When he wasn’t fighting Indians or the British, the Hero of New Orleans made and sold whiskey. He offered and drank whiskey as a matter of social routine when guests visited him.

Martin Van Buren
Drank so much whiskey that it earned him a nickname, “Blue Whiskey Van.” He also enjoyed something called Schiedam (a gin-like Dutch specialty unique to New York’s Hudson River Valley).

what are the words????

To Anacreon in heaven where he sat in full glee,
A few sons of harmony sent a petition,
That he their inspirer and patron would be,
When this answer arrived from the jolly old Grecian:
Voice, fiddle aud flute, no longer be mute,
I'll lend you my name and inspire you to boot!
And besides I'll instruct you like me to entwine
The myrtle of Venus and Bacchus's vine.

The news through Olympus immediately flew,
When old Thunder pretended to give himself airs,
If these mortals are suffered their scheme to pursue,
The devil a goddess will stay above stairs,
Hark! already they cry, in transports of joy,
A fig for Parnassus, to Rowley's we'll fly,
And there my good fellows, we'll learn to entwine
The myrtle of Venus and Bacchus's vine.

The yellow-haired god, and his nine fusty maids,
To the hill of old Lud will incontinent flee,
Idalia will boast but of tenantless shades,
And the biforked hill a mere desert will be,
My thunder, no fear on't, will soon do its errand,
And, damn me I'll swinge the ringleaders, I warrant
I'll trim the young dogs, for thus daring to twine
The myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's vine.

Apollo rose up and said, "Prythee ne'er quarrel,
Good king of the gods, with my votaries below
Your thunder is useless - then showing his laurel,
Cried, Sic evitabile fulmen, you know!
Then over each head my laurels I'll spread,
So my sons from your crackers no mischief shall dread
Whilst snug in their club-room, they jovially twine
The myrtle of Venus and Bacchus's vine.

actually, using today's definitions, so the reader does not have to keep track of changing definitions through the centuries, they were conservatives who fought for very very limited govt exactly as modern Republican conservatives and libertarians do. Do you understand?
