I think Team Trump exposed some glaring realities about the State of the Union.... where the surreal has dovetailed with the twilight zone and abstract and obtuse have become as normal and contemporary today as a Norman Rockwell classic fifty years ago!
Let me rephrase that. Before Machine Gun Kelley, Bonnie and Clyde, Al Capone and John Dillinger, we had no restrictions on firearms. Get the idea?
Then we had a post WW2 baby boom. And, our formerly rural nation urbanized, rapidly. I know you personally may not see that as a reason for imposing restrictions such that machine guns do not fall into everyone's hands, but most people certainly disagree with you there.
Next we had race riots and tremendous domestic uprisings due to the Vietnam war, a time when people were blowing things up and forming armed militias, like the SLA and BPP. I'm reasonably certain that you would prefer they not have legal access to machine guns, hand grenades and bazookas. But, that's just a guess.
I worry much more that some inexperienced, uneducated president starts a war by tweeting the wrong thing in the middle of the night than I am that we end up with an oppressive Liberal Leftist regime. If any regime is going to be oppressive, it's the Righties.
20 years of listening to talk radio, watching the likes of Glen Beck and hanging out on forums like Free Republic has created an army of ignorant morons who think they know what is best for America. Shame is, this year they won.
we had state regulations on firearms use-that was what the founders intended
there was no need for the federal regulations-other it was to pander to hysterics. Do you know why "silencers" were put on the list? because during the depression, people were poaching deer to feed their families. some with suppressors. Game wardens would sometimes arrest these poachers only to see a jury of their peers (other poor country folk) and rural judges elected by those poor country folk letting the poachers off. now the Game wardens could threaten these people with a FEDERAL FELONY
that was why
actually few machine guns were actually used. pistols were and still are the favored weapons of criminals who don't like to draw attention to themselves. people shooting at law enforcement officers are pretty well past being deterred by gun laws btw.
Most people are low information. most people don't realize how dishonest the gun control movement is in the United States.
Cops are issued automatic weapons for self defense against criminals. the same criminals that attack honest citizens who are civilians just like the cops. Cops aren't walking around with bazookas or M67 Fragmentation grenades. Now if our CIVILIAN police officers are ISSUED fully automatic hand held carbines and SMGs for USE in urban environments, there is no reason why lawful civilians cannot own them in their own homes. No one is saying civilians who aren't in the police are going to be carrying them concealed in our courthouses or city streets,.
there is no honest reason for the gun control laws Democrats have passed in the last 82 years
30 years of the MSM sucking up to the left, lying about all sorts of things combined with main stream programming spewing the BS the DNC loves, has created an army of dependent low information bots who really think the Constitution is about them having all sorts of government handouts and some of the other idiocy that so many idiots believe in
I'm not a fan of gun control. I was just pointing out why some people are.
Not a fan of Norman Lear, I take it.
I get a bit fed up with the politicization of everything, especially the overused stereotype where the white guy in the suit is always the bad guy. But, some of that old programming was pretty damned good--especially Charles Bronson movies.I especially liked that one about the battle for water rights, set in Colorado, I believe.
I already know that inside and out. I have more than 40 years of dealing with the issue. you used to be a major league fan of gun control. I guess you have changed
