Translation: Beto O'Rourke First 2020 Presidential Ad Bltiz Gets 3.2 Million views in 24 hours - and it makes you think:

Video text quoted here:
“The southern border already has over 600 miles of wall and fence. And since 2007, the undocumented population has grown more through visa overstays than unauthorized border crossings. We need realistic immigration reform, not a symbol of division,” the video concludes.

What, exactly, does "Beto" mean by "realistic immigration reform"?

https://betofortexas.com/issue/immigration/

Not one word on increased border security or interior immigration law enforcement. It boils down to let more immigrants in as fast as possible and don't sweat the 12M (to 20M) illegal immigrants already here (simply change their status?) with more arriving daily.

Texas is a representation of America and its diversity and richness. If Beto can't win Texas against a Canadian, he can't win the presidency.

You really think the 12M illegals are going to self-deport to countries they haven't been in for decades in some cases? THAT is what needs to be dealt with. Currently there are more illegals here due to EXPIRED VISAS, so yes, there is serious immigration reform and foreign work reform that need to be done.

The part where US employers can essentially issue visas on demand?

Modernize the visa system to allow U.S. employers to find workers for jobs that American workers can’t fill.

That is precisely what Trump does - advertise temporary jobs at the lower end of permanent job wages and then express shock that they don't get filled. Unlike hiring a local worker, an immigrant cannot switch jobs as soon as something better (or at equal pay but permanent) opens up.

So what you're saying is essentially that the immigration system is broken beyond repair and that no one should even attempt to fix the visa problem, right?

If they are already employed with expired visas then what, exactly, needs reform? What Beto wants is to transform them into US citizen workers (instant demorat voters?) opening up their prior jobs (that US citizens will not do) to "require" the next wave of immigrants.

There is no visa problem, there is a problem of employers not offering wages/benefits that will attract/retain US citizen workers.

Congress doesn't want to deal with visas any more than they want to deal with people crossing the border. We have to start somewhere. Let's start with the border.

Well all Trump has to do is get that money from Mexico and he will have his wall. Why hasn't he got that money yet? Ask him.

If Trump shuts down the entire Southern border the Mexicans and everybody else will be clamoring to pay for the wall.

Pay us now or pay us even more later. We are getting the wall no matter what.

You will also hurt many businesses and people in the meantime. I say go for it so Trump will be finally gone after 2020. NO WALL unless Mexico pays for it.

Also, I kind of hope there is a wall that STARTS to be built so that when a Dem is president they can order it's demolition.

So be it, give us the wall or voluntarily "hurt many businesses and people in the meantime", your choice.

So we are in agreement, lets start building it and let ANYone try to tear it down later... we will see about that.

It will hurt people and businesses in the US, not Mexico.

As soon as Mexico sends the money, no American Taxpayer money should be used to build the wall.

Already made it plain that everyone will be willing if he shuts the entire border down. Folks and corporations will in no time be jamming the phone lines to their reps and senators... wait and see.

Yes, they will force the GOP to work with the Dem house, compromise on a solution that doesn't include the wall and then send it to Trump. Once Trump vetoes it, the senate will override and throw egg on Trump's face. It's a guarantee though, IMO, that if Trump is sent a bill that he ACTUALLY HAS TO VETO, he will back down.

Robert Francis O'Rourke is the future of the national Democratic Party. You can bet on it.

The senate won't get enough votes to override his veto.

Mitch needs to just go ahead and use the nuke option, at minimum get people on record as to who is, and more importantly WHO IS NOT, for protecting American citizens. Gotta know who to primary and general election vote out in 2020.
