O'Reilly blasts "smear merchants" and "vampires" criticizing Mel Gibson; Rivera smear

Get the popcorn, this is going to be fun to watch.

"Al Capone's vault" & the man famous for giving away troop positions in the field Geraldo Rivera and Mr. Falafel take the Mel Gibson debacle as a chance to slam Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Keith Olbermann.

Can't wait for the rebuttals! :rock

Summary: On his Fox News program, Bill O'Reilly called Mel Gibson's recent anti-Semitic comments "inexcusable," but said it is "more important" to discuss the "point where the media and individual Americans start to enjoy the suffering of rich and powerful people." Guest Geraldo Rivera later suggested that O'Reilly refer to "that schmuck from MSNBC," apparently MSNBC host Keith Olbermann; Rivera added that the "schmuck from MSNBC" is a "lowlife." Rivera also asserted that Comedy Central hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert "make a living putting on video of old ladies slipping on ice and people laughing" and that they "exist in a small little place where they count for nothing."

Re: O'Reilly blasts "smear merchants" and "vampires" criticizing Mel Gibson; Rivera smear

O'REILLY: I think we should call these people out. I think we should call these people out.

RIVERA: Then call them by name, then.

O'REILLY: No.

RIVERA: Then don't, then don't --

O'REILLY: Because then you give them more publicity.

Man, Bill O'reilly is a bitch. I'd prefer to use another word, but there're rules and such.

RIVERA: They make a living putting on video of old ladies slipping on ice and people laughing. That's their life. That's their life. They exist in a small little place where they count for nothing. The history will be made by those who have affirmative thoughts, who make, you know, innovative suggestions in life and are inclusive.

Anybody seen Colbert at the White House Press Club Dinner?
O'Reilly and Rivera wish they could've been born with just one of his balls.

Re: O'Reilly blasts "smear merchants" and "vampires" criticizing Mel Gibson; Rivera s

Umm... Geraldo talking **** about comedians?

I don't get it.. they are ****ING COMEDIANS!

It is thier job to make people laugh!

He just needs to stop whining because nobody watches him anymore, they are too busy watching funny **** from Stewart and Colbert.

Re: O'Reilly blasts "smear merchants" and "vampires" criticizing Mel Gibson; Rivera smear

They are dumb a$$e$, I fail to see the error in this entire piece?

Re: O'Reilly blasts "smear merchants" and "vampires" criticizing Mel Gibson; Rivera s

Rivera also asserted that Comedy Central hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert "make a living putting on video of old ladies slipping on ice and people laughing" and that they "exist in a small little place where they count for nothing.

This is certainly true.

And, Mel Gibson's opinions also mean absolutely nothing in the scheme of things; he's just a frigging actor. It's a sign of just how pathetic so-called 'news' networks are in their drive for '24 hour news' that they have to fill up so much time on this; yet another good reason to toss the TV out of your house.

What does Geraldo count for? He is a sensationalist who will say or do anything to stay on TV-

Rivera sketched a map in the sand to show his viewers his location and what the next military objectives were going to be. Never mind that Iraqi military commanders watch the same news sources for reliable reports from the field.

Of course the Pentagon was furious with Rivera about this open violation of the embedded journalist rules. The very fact that Rivera showed such disregard for the safety of the soldiers by openly disclosing information on camera that could help the enemy defense is beyond understanding. Mr. Rivera claims that he did not knowingly do anything or disclose anything that he believed he was not allowed. However, a veteran sensationalist journalist of Rivera’s status, with over twenty years of experience, would have known that such actions could put coalition troops in danger by Iraqi forces.

The Pentagon ordered Rivera out of Iraq and took away his pass as an embedded reporter. Rivera is trying to play it all down, stating that no friction exists between himself and the military, stating it was his own decision to remove himself from the front lines back to Kuwait.

Reckless acts and open collaboration by veteran journalists such as Rivera and Arnett create real danger to troops facing real bullets. It is one thing to face the enemy in front that is shooting back. It is quite another to face the enemy behind, busy giving battlefield information during live feeds or happily appearing on enemy television to give negative information and feedback to comfort the enemy at the expense of the audience they are there to report for.

Always cover up a lie with a lie. Then cover up with 'the fog of war.' Geraldo lying about saying the Lord's prayer:

On December 6, Rivera reported that he had choked up after reciting the Lord's prayer over the "hallowed ground" in Afghanistan where, as he said, "friendly fire took so many of our—our men and the mujahadeen yesterday." In an article in the Baltimore Sun on December 15, David Folkenflik wrote that Rivera's report was a misrepresentation.

Rivera admitted that he had been several hundred miles from where three Americans had been the victims of friendly fire near Kandahar on December 5. He told the Sun that he had been misled by "the fog of war" and had confused that incident with another friendly fire incident that killed several mujahadeen and other men in fatigues in the mountains where Rivera was dodging bullets and crawling into caves. According to the Sun, the Pentagon said the Tora Bora incident occurred on Dec. 9, three days after Rivera's report was aired. Rivera then claimed he had been confused. He claimed to have seen some of our Afghan allies in Tora Bora killed by a U.S. bomb the same day.

Right, his opinion means nothing. Sure is fun to see a hypocrite expose himself, though.

Re: O'Reilly blasts "smear merchants" and "vampires" criticizing Mel Gibson; Rivera s

Was Zapping around when I landed on this.. snorted my cola.. it was soo funny. No one can take O'Reilly or the Fox News channel seriously gezz.

Re: O'Reilly blasts "smear merchants" and "vampires" criticizing Mel Gibson; Rivera smear

Geraldo calling someone a lowlife is hilarious. This coming from a man who did a show for ratings that had some of the lowest lowlives in our country.

And O'Reilly is upset because he didn't like it when he was in the spotlight and everyone heard about his talking dirty to a female co-worker (he's married) and telling her all the cool things he was going to do in the shower with her with a loofah sponge in some exotic place. He empathizes with the Gibster.

Having said that, I think the media exploits issues like this because it gets ratings. It's what their viewers want to see. Personally, I don't care anymore about Mel Gibson. I don't care to see his drunken pictures nor hear about his apologies. Boring.

RIVERA: They make a living putting on video of old ladies slipping on ice and people laughing.

I think Geraldo is referring to the clip of TDS showing HIM slipping and sliding while covering one of the hurricanes.

Mel Gibson is the "distraction du jour"

Anyone notice how coverage of the Iraq occupation is way down these days in the corporate media?

Are we still in Iraq?

Right, he is a pandering hack-always has been.

More importantly though, do you have a large animation of the 'Machine Gun Kitty' I can download? My wife loves cats, and would get a kick out of it.

Right, he is a pandering hack-always has been.

Since he's never taken himself seriously, I fail to see why this makes him less honest or credible than 99% of the rest of them; in fact he's more honest about it than most, and makes fun of himself often. I'm not annoyed by Geraldo nearly as much as I am the so-called 'serious' journalists who feign 'objectivity'.

Re: O'Reilly blasts "smear merchants" and "vampires" criticizing Mel Gibson; Rivera smear

Schmuck gets drunk, and makes a gaffe railing against jews.

Dipshits give 24 hour news coverage of this tripe.

Morons criticize the dipshits for being too harsh.

Retards are so stupid they find schmuck’s antics noteworthy enough to vindicate both the dipshits and the morons.

Of the dipshits, morons, and retards, who do you think is the most pathetic?

I don't care much what some article says, as it had little or nothing to do with what I said. He hardly lies more than the vast majority of 'news' anchors and reporters, who constantly throw unsubstantiated stories and falsehoods on the air and onto front pages just on hearsay, sometimes for days on end, only for us to find out later that they had it wrong. They just want to 'scoop' everybody else and don't care what they throw out there as long as they're 'first' with some story.

I would call repeating mere rumors and such as lying and blatant distortion, and I doubt Geraldo is any more of a pandering hack than any you can name from the major networks. When so-called 'serious news stations', CNN, MSNBC, all three majors, and all the papers et al, carry hours of 'stories' and 'backgrounders' on frigging Mel Gibson's drunk driving arrest, you know they're desperate and feckless gossip mongers and hacks, and there is now no major difference between them and 'Entertainment Tonight' or Bill O'Reilly's old gig at that show biz tabloid he came from.

What everyone should be focused on is the Colmes comment later, where he attempted to compare the Kennedy drunk driving debacle, to that of Mel Gibson situation. Of course these are entirely different issues, one actually makes laws, the other makes fiction, to compare them is ridiculous.

You said that Geraldo is more honest than most. He admits in one of the articles below he lied about saying the Lord's Prayer over American soldiers killed in the Middle East in a fire fight he was party to. But he was not there, and did not say the prayer. He is not more honest than anybody.

I usually watch ABC evening news, then The News Hour at 7PM. In the mornings, I watch Fox News before going to work, then listen to talk radio here and there to keep up with political issues. I think you have to have several sources and a personal BS filter to get a decent picture of what's going on.

Wahh Wahh Wahh...

What people fail to realize is that the media network is in the business to make a profit just like everyone else.
So if they report on **** and thier ratings go up, they will keep reporting on it. And, in the case of newspapers, if newspaper sales keep going up, they will stay on the same lame stories until something big breaks out or they realize they have beat the dead horse.

Its all about profit.
Hey, its capitalism. Isn't that what fat cats always say?
