Ontario couple finds 400-year-old skeleton, gets $5,000 bill

Note to self... if you find ancient remains in your backyard, just deal with it on your own and don't tell anyone.

Ironic, but developers run into this in the US with black cemeteries somewhat regularly since a lot of them were marked by stones long since gone or the stones like those used back then by blacks are found but no remains turn up after spending a lot of money on the investigation. If there are remains, you can go the route of relocation or change your plans to leave the cemetery as is within your development. My golf course has one on it that was turned into a flowerbed.
