Once again, America is in denial about signs of a fresh Covid wave

What is it that bothers you about masks, Gatsby?
I don't want to wear a hijab for no reason. It's that simple. If you're into that sort of thing, go for it.

Your "beliefs" are false. The only ones not being sent back under title 42 are unaccompanied minors. The border is secure and allowing people to apply for asylum be because of conditions in their home countries is an American tradition. Immigrants are less likely to commit felonies than american citizens too.

Undocumented immigrants far less likely to commit crimes in U.S. than citizens

December 7, 2020 By Chris Barncard
Crime rates among undocumented immigrants are just a fraction of those of their U.S.-born neighbors, according to a first-of-its-kind analysis of Texas arrest and conviction records.

Compared to undocumented immigrants, U.S. citizens were twice as likely to be arrested for violent felonies in Texas from 2012 to 2018, two-and-a-half times more likely to be arrested for felony drug crimes, and over four times more likely to be arrested for felony property crimes, according to a study published by University of Wisconsin–Madison researchers today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

What country do you live in?
Who was on the bus that dropped off illegals in Washington DC? I didn't see any minors.
No estimate was provided for “got-aways,” the thousands of migrants who evade detection and whose entry is thus never recorded.

Since March 20, 2021 94,750 illegal immigrants have been allowed in the US with “Notices to Report,”
Another 32,000 illegal immigrants have been released into the US since Aug. 6, 2021 on parole
Nearly 40,000 illegal immigrants have been released since Aug. 6, 2021 on their own recognizance, including 128 single adults let go in a single day near Del Rio, Texas, without being required to wear an ankle monitor or tracked by phone as part of the “Alternatives to Detention program.”

About 50,000 migrants who crossed the southern border illegally have now been released in the United States without a court date. Although they are told to report to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office instead, just 13% have shown up so far, Axios has learned.
It's unprecedented for agents to release migrants without an official notice to appear in court. Where it has occurred recently, migrants have instead been given a list of addresses and contacts for ICE offices across the country and told to report to one of them.

Between April 2020 and the end of the Trump administration, more than 80% of monthly migrant encounters at the southwestern border resulted in expulsion rather than apprehension. Article 42 Expulsions have become less common – and Title 8 apprehensions more common – in the first months of President Joe Biden’s administration. In July, 47% of migrant encounters resulted in expulsion, down from 83% in January, when Biden took office. During the same period, the share of migrant encounters that resulted in apprehension rose from 17% to 53%.

The migrants being encountered at the U.S.-Mexico border today differ demographically from those encountered during the last major increase in southwest migration, in May 2019.

Single adults accounted for 53% of migrant encounters in July, up from 28% in May 2019, while people traveling in families represented 38%, down from 64%. The share of encounters involving unaccompanied minors was unchanged at 9%.

The December 2021 figures show only 44 percent of the encounters resulted in Title 42 expulsion (78,589), compared to 100,251 processed under Title 8, which may or may not result in detention.

...Indications within the United States support the idea that new wave is already getting started. Wastewater surveillance is relatively sparse in the United States, but 15% of the 410 sites where it was conducted between 24 February to 10 March 2022 showed a greater than 1000% increase compared with the prior 15-day period. Also, the BA.2 variant is gaining steam in the United States and is now accounting for more than 30% of new cases.

...the people who need protection the most, besides those who are immunocompromised, are the 65-plus group. The US has a booster rate of 65% in this age group, whereas the UK and many European and Asian countries exceed a 90% booster rate for people 65 and over. This is a critical issue, because there is a substantial dropdown of protection, from 90-95% with a third shot to 75-80% without a booster, versus Omicron hospitalization and death. The problem of lack of adequate vaccination in the United States is compounded by not having any plan for a fourth dose. The Israeli study of over 1 million people age 60 and over showed a 4.3 fold enhanced protection versus severe illness from Omicron compared with those receiving three shots.

Not only is there a gaping hole in our immunity wall, but the $58bn budget of the American Pandemic Prepared Plan (AP3), advanced by the White House to comprehensively address the deficiencies, was gutted by the Senate and reduced to just $2bn. Under threat are the order of more than 9.2m Paxlovid pills, the Test-to Treat program announced at the State of the Union address, better data, wastewater surveillance, efforts to develop a pan-coronavirus vaccine, research on long Covid, and many other critical public health measures.

Fox news does it again. There is nothing in that piece but hearsay and opinions. Mostly the opinion of a disgruntled ex border guard who is a Trumpist no doubt.

"We have over 400,000 documented gotaways, people or incidents, where people cross the border, got away this last year," former Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott said in an interview that aired on Fox News Tuesday evening.

Scott, ousted from government by Biden administration officials after 29 years in the Border Patrol, said instances like thousands of people surging across the river in Del Rio, Texas, led to "hundreds of miles of border [where] we have no idea what took place."

"No idea" to him means 400,000 got away. LOL

Here are the real numbers from CBP...

The high number of total encounters was partly driven by high recidivism rates (repeat encounters) among individuals processed under the CDC’s Title 42 public health authorities, meaning the actual number of unique individuals attempting to cross the border was substantially lower than total encounters.

The majority of border encounters resulted in expulsions under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Title 42 public health authority. The varied demographics of the population encountered at the border, reductions in custody capacity, and other COVID-related restrictions made the processing of large number of noncitizens apprehended or found inadmissible under the government’s Title 8 immigration authority uniquely challenging in fiscal year 2021.

Overall, in FY 2021, there were 1.72 million CBP encounters that resulted in either expulsion under the CDC’s Title 42 public health authority or processing as Title 8 immigration enforcement cases (“enforcement encounters”). The Department completed 1.2 million repatriations, including expulsions under Title 42 and removals under Title 8, which represents a 15-year high that is more than two-and-a-half times as many repatriations as in FY 2020. Most people encountered at the border (62 percent) were expelled under the Title 42 authority to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Maybe you feel more comfortable reading right wing media accounts. LOL

CNN: Recently, an average of around 1,500 people daily have evaded law enforcement at the border, the number of so called "got aways" that the agency detects through a variety of technological and other tracking efforts, according to the official.

I was shopping at Costco today and the number of scardy cats still wearing masks was astounding. A clear trend was that most were of Asian heritage.

Not sure if a cultural thing to comply, or fear of being singled out as not following the same rules they have over in China?
