I notice others have used this forum for advice, so I need some.

I applied some silicone caulking around a window and would like to blend it in with the wall. Which paint should I use? Melamine is my preferred but some have suggested Semi-Gloss. I like to avoid an oil based paint.
 
Blend what in with the wall?

The caulk? The window frame?

I tend to use a semi gloss on wood trim - be that window trim/baseboards, etc and then a flat or a satin finish paint on the walls.

I’ve only heard of melamine type paint being used on wooden furniture or cabinets, I don’t think I’ve heard of it being used in window trim or walls.


Brand wise? I prefer Sherwin Williams.

step 1 is that probably need to get a primer specifically made to go over whatever type of caulk you used. I don’t think any paint will adhere to caulk without that as a base step first.

What type of primer is going to vary by the type of caulk used.

I’d take the caulk to your local home improvement/hardware/paint store and ask them

They make paintable caulking.
 
Depends on the size of the space you had to caulk. The smaller the easier to paint, and blend the caulk into the gap. If it's very large you probably can't hide it all. Either the caulk or the wood trim will look offset. If you are filling between wall and wood trim piece, just paint up to the edge of the wood.
 
You tube likely has a nice "how to" video that would help you out.
 
Nothing sticks well to silicone caulk. It's great for glass but not much else.

For exterior wood trim like around windows, prime, use a quality paintable latex caulk and paint away. Quality latex paints these days are as durable as oil based.

Sorry my friend, I have no good advice. I didn't think any paint would hold over silicone. Perhaps using a colored silicone that would be acceptable over the white? Good luck.
 
Any paint store will tell you lol.
